I've seen plasmas that are 1080i capable.

I think I might go with the monitor and a cheap usb keyboard so I can keep using this until I can afford a decent desktop. I really can't justify spending $300+ on something that's only slightly better than what I have since I don't game much on pc anymore.
Strange. I see Dell, Acer and even Benq monitors at work. The prices we put on them are very reasonable.
Hell even sub 32" lcd tv's that are 1080p have ok prices...if you aren't hardcore gaming on PC a tv should be ok (refresh rate wouldn't be as good as a monitor).

Unfortauntly ive been through every resolution and if it isn't pushing the screen off the top of the TV then it's off the sides :/ on both P and I res, literally all it can do is 1024x768...it REALLY is a crap TV, also getting weird pixely/hazey distortion on the side of the thing when im scrolling through youtube vids :/

Is there a button on your tv remote for info? I mean whatever you're watching on it, press that button and it will show you the resolution currently being displayed.

Actually now that I think about it...if you're connecting the tv to a pc using D-Sub (VGA) there could be resolution restrictions.
HDMI and DVI should let you access all possible resolutions. If you only have DVI then grab a DVI to HDMI adapter (for like $1-2).

But then using plasma as a monitor isn't recommended anyway because of the risks of screen burn-in from static images. Later plasmas have less risk of that, but afaik all plasmas have a higher risk of it than lcd etc.

Reason I asked about the info button on the tv remote is: if you've had a blu-ray player for a while there's a good chance the menu screen for it has a highest resolution of 1080i, not 1080p.

Not really. I do have spare monitors I could give away but Grouch and Crash are in other countries.

You might be, yeah. I wasn't claiming you were wrong at all.
I do really recall seeing plasma tv's that had 1080i as highest resolution...this was back when a lot of "full HD" tv channels were only 1080i not 1080p.
And if you're using VGA good chance it will only use 720p as max in that case...HDMI should let you use 1080i though.
