    No kids today.

But for some reason I'm up even earlier than I was yesterday.

So, funny story. I was on Craigslist and I might buy a project bike.
I found something cheap, but in restorable condition. It's an 81 Yamaha sx400 special ii. Just a standard bike, but it looks cool and would give me something to do.

a little tip make sure you can find parts for it before you buy it.

It shouldn't be that hard to source parts for a Japanese bike as long as it isn't from like the 1940s or 50s. Cars are the same, except maybe panels and some large items like that.
Maybe it's expensive to actually acquire the parts in the US, but that's different to them not existing.

    Spoiler warning:

I have my motorcycle endorsement and haven't even got to use it yet. I've been waiting for my bike to get painted which I'm stuck doing myself at this point as well as a minor wiring fix and some tuning.
I was hoping to paint this week but I have to keep an eye on the weather if it's too humid I won't be able to paint.

you'd be surprised at how difficult it is to find some parts here and when you do it can be expensive. I'm still looking for stock exhaust for my bike(I've been looking for several years now)

I only got my license recently too, so we're in the same boat. I don't need a motorcycle, hell I'm not even sure If I want one. I just thought it could be a fun project to work on. Then after I finished, I would decide if I wanted to keep it or just resell it.

For an exhaust you get a custom one made that looks like the original.
You do that for any old bike you want to restore, or a car for that matter.

For that particular part it comes down to money or skill.
I know a guy that has been restoring bikes for over 30 years, Japanese bikes aren't hard as long as they're from the 1960s onwards.

Some euro stuff can be really hard, he's done a lot of BSA's and other British stuff, has a Montesa dirt bike that was a bit painful to complete, he had an old Laverda but he sold that.
Some things like NSU, DKW etc are a real headache. You pretty much have to get repro or make your own parts (which he has done, he's got a small foundry and machine shop).

Stock exhaust? Can't you retro fit something? I saw a video on custom piping kits and it didn't seem too difficult, of course you would probably need to borrow a torch.
