    Default VMU help (nulldc)

maybe i am not wording my question correctly, but i cant find the answer anywhere. I recently started using Nulldc. I am able to set up the plugins so that i have vmus set up in all 8 slots (2 subdivisions on each controller), but i cant figure out how to have various games access the right one. maybe it is simply a game issue, but for instance, on the first vmu, i have blocks being used for sonic, namco museum etc). the problem comes when i play a game like nba2k. it requires 198 blocks, so it needs its own vmu. so, since i have 8 vmus, it should access one of the blank ones, but i always get the message "not enough room on memory card in slot A". this is true as that memory card has info from other games, but the one is slot B on controller one and all the ones on the other ports are empty. Is there some way to tell Nulldc to access a different memory card. on the original controllers, it was easy to just switch the memory card into port A or whatever, but i cant seem to see a way to do that virtually on the controller. currently, the only thing i can think of to do is to rename the memory card in slot A to something else (ie vmu_sonic.bin) and rename different memory cards along the same lines, then change the one i want to use to the original name when i want to play a game. that will work, but it is a pain and since i have 8 slots for vmus it seems like there should be a way to say which one i want to use. i did notice that when i play sonic 2, it actually opens a screen that shows all 8 memory cards and i can pick, so maybe its the way nba2k was designed to only look at that slot. anyway, if anyone understands what i am asking and knows the answer, i would appreciate it. im new to the dreamcast emulation

    Thanks

Same thing applies to a retail console some games only access the first VMU

    Others can access them all

You need to change the VMU in slot 1 of pad 1 if it lacks the space

You can format a VMU to have a little more space if you wanted but that will not stop it running out and that only unlocks a few extra blocks

thank you for your help. i appeciate that. that is kinda what i figured. so is there a way to "change" the "virtual" vmu in slot 1 or do you just have to rename the files so that the one you want to use for a specific game is called whatever the vmu for port 1 slot is (example: xxxxx_port1.bin)

    correct

You can also use a VMU manager to backup individual saves and then put them in another VMU file, but that is not any easier or quicker than just renaming a vmu file
