Default PCSX2 1.40 crashing when loading states

    Consistently.

    Path: C:\Users\........\Documents\PCSX2\sstates\SLUS-20946 (2C6BE434).00.p2s
(pxActionEvent) Cannot read from file (bad file handle?)(VM_UnzipFromDisk)

Makes no difference which slot I use.

Sometimes saving states causes an error too. This all started recently, I had no problems in the past. First on 1.2.1, so I upgraded to 1.4 but still have the same problem.

For what it's worth, about 3/4 through Vice City it started on 1.2.1, now with San Andreas on 1.4 right off the bat.

So.... what do I do now?

Don't use Save states they are unstable always have been, they can get corrupt at any time, you may of been lucky in the past though

Play them the way they are intended and use memory card saves in-game

It could be the location of the savestate files is getting stored.
Try moving the emulator and SS files to say a smaller location like c:\games\ps2\emu

Because the location title size is so long, maybe the ps2 core is having issues with that.

If all you want to use is save states prepare for eventual data loss as Zorlon stated, its a known fact save states are unstable and the save state code WILL change between emulator revisions so its best to save them in tandem with real saves.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

I fully agree, I mean I use SS myself.
But as a golden rule, I always save to memory card too.

As when you move cores, or try to SS certain sections of a game too often or quickly. You can corrupt the SS very quickly.
    So yup, I agree Warrior
