    Default Sonic 3 save issues

Hey I have a sega mega drive portable handheld gaming device, it has a lot of games saved on the SD card already and one of which is Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Whenever I switch the machine off I lose my save file in the game - is this inherent to the emulation/handheld device that there is not storage to actually save games and come back to them?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

There might not be try some other games that used Battery saves

Phantasy Star II did (I know because my copy of that game had a dead battery so the first time I completed it I had the Megadrive on constantly to be able to complete it)

What is the exact name of the device you are using, it may be worth doing a google search on it and look at the features carefully and any other support pages it has if any and or look for updates for it

I looked this up earlier and came across a couple of things...
Sonic 3 may use FRAM chip, so not exactly the same as other battery save types as the chip becomes totally unusable after some time.
If this handheld is the ATGames Mega Drive then Sonic 3 saves may not be supported, in fact some game titles may not work at all maybe because of odd mappers or whatever.
I suspect with the first gen of that console no saves for any games was possible.

    Spoiler warning:
