maybe nintendo should stop relying on gimmicks and build a viable alternative system to the "big two" or scrap their consoles and do what atari and sega did go into game development/producing

I think Nintendo plays it pretty smart by not trying to compete with hardware. It's all second-rate compared to PCs. So long as Nintendo doesn't lose money on hardware they avoid having to pay a licensing fee to Sony/Microsoft and thus make more than they would going that route.

I didn't think of it like that. I think I may have been more inclined to buy one of their new consoles if they would have went with a more "normal" style controller and added the motion/tablet/ect controllers as options instead of being primary controllers.
