Default PS1 games on PS2 - Troubles with PS2PSXe and POPStarter

    Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.

My PSOne died and I would like tu use my PS2 to play old games when I find time.

    Hardware:
    PS2 SCPH-39004
IHDD label MIC Ultra ATA (160gb)
    Network adaptator SCPH-10350

I used the "newbie pack" image on my IHDD to get FHDB. It was in order to get the opportunity to play PS1 games through IHDD or USB stick.
I tried PS2PSXe but it failed. I get black screen after the game logo. It "vibrates" and then goes dark. I tried every BIOS I could find..

I tried POPstarter following the ShaolinAssassin tutorial found here:
    https://bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassi...quickstart-usb

It did not work. I got black sreen again.

So I followed tips from ShaolinAssassin and used "PPF-O-Matic" with the debug patch found here:
    https://bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassi...iki/debug-mode

It said to give here the texts shown so here it goes:
    """
    POPStarter, Revision 13
    Build Date 2015/06/03
    WIP 05 PUBLIC RELEASE

    * POPSTARTER LAUNCHER INITIALIZATION *
    * USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE LOADING MODE *

    sio2man : 25
    usbd : 26
    usbhdgfsg : 27

    Opening mass:/POPS/...[]
    """
For information, I tried the game ISO (S*ul Bl*de) on pSX_1_13 emulator and it worked with the "PSO - DTLH3002.BIN" BIOS, with few sounds issues.

Could you, please, help me? What did I miss?

is soul blade even compatible with the emulators you tried on your PS2 sounds like the game is running but is crashing that kind of hints it is not going to work, rather than any sort of problem with your setup that would simply result in it not doing anything at all rather than booting up to a logo splash then crash

It appears to be compatible. I saw a youtube video of this game on POPStarter, for example.
I am still wondering why it does not work, especially on PS2PSXe. It does not make sense. Why would it "fizzle" and then go to dark screen?

did you check your disc image with redump.org?

Youtube is easy enough to fake but lets say it's not, it may be a different revision of the game and or region of the game that was used

There are 3 english versions of this game an EU version and 2 US releases also if I remember correctly

Don't use a USB device to try to play ps1 backups with the ps2, the emulator "POPS-00001 or POPSTARTER", is incompatible with a lot of usb sticks and harddrives, your just wasting your time, not to mention the fmv's will stutter........................What you need to do after you installed "FHDB", is run "ulaunchelf" assuming that was auto installed. Then you need to install FMCB to your ps2 memory card, and then reformat your PS2 hdd and follow a dedicated PS2 Tutorial, http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...ist-%282016%29, grab the package and follow the tutorial. There are plenty of setup examples, that you can use, with files that all work, if you get confused, most tutorials don't include any setup examples, that is why they are really difficult to follow. (All you need in your CHEATS.TXT files are the "$SAFEMODE and $SMOOTH" commands in your ps1 game's save folder in your ps2 hdd, to enable analog/joystick support, I made the mistake of using the "Codes" to enable joystick support and that causes a tiny bit of slowdown in the games ------ Setup Example is included you can use in the package).

(If you are stuck with a Slim PS2, then you must use the USB port, and you should google to find out what specific usb sticks/drives are compatible, you may even be better off buying a fat ps2 + network adaptor (+star tech ide to sata adaptor (Red in Color) for a 2.5 inch harddrive/seagate 500 gig works great + small 1.5 inch ide cable if you don't want to use a 3.5 inch ide harddrive, USB method for ps1 backups or games is not a guaranteed to work method, save your money if your out of luck, rather than get burned) (the library of games that actually play great is very small, if your only paying money for ps1 games, instead of ps2 game backups also, consider buying a ps vita instead, as you will not full up a harddrive full of ps1 games that actually work good and are playable for the ps2)
