Never a bad option to go with the early titles of some of the most iconic series in gaming. Final Fantasy, Megaman, Dragon Warrior, Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, all of 'em got their start on the NES.

First I remember playing include Mario 3, Solstice, Conquest of the Crystal Palace, Final Fantasy 1, LoZ, Metroid and Dragon Strike.
My uncle had dozens of games and I never found one I disliked. It was actually both my mother and uncle that got me interested in gaming, as they both played with me to a great extent.

    Just to name a few;

Dragon Quest 4 (DS version is inferior), StarTropics 1-2, Mega Man 2-4 and 6, Adventure Islands 2-4, Arkista's Ring, Bomberman, Crystalis, DuckTales 1-2, Holy Diver, Magical Kids Doropie (NEVER The Krion Conquest version), Moon Crystal, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2-3, Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth

Dragon Quest 1-3 have superior SNES/Super Famicom remakes (even the Game Boy versions are better), Fire Emblem 1 has a better port on the SNES/SFC with Mystery of the Emblem, Ys 1-3 have better remakes on Steam and the PSP. If you MUST just play them on the NES, then go ahead, but you're doing yourself a disservice.

The NES Library is pretty broad, got any select genres you are into?

    Blaster Master
    The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
    Super Mario Bros. 3
    Megaman 1-6
    DuckTails
    The Battle of Olympus
    Crystalis
    Faxanadu

Are a few of my top NES games.

THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

I'd recommend starting with Kirby's Adventure. It's pretty easy while still being fun. Super Mario Bros 3 is also really good and worth a play, but it can get REALLY difficult.

    First NES games...

Well, they were kinda tough back then, but they made us the players we are today.

    Didn't they?

    Castlevania
    Gun.Smoke
    Contra
    Burger Time
    City Connection
    Elevator Action
    Battle City

    And many more...

    Elmdor's list FTW!

My first game ever was Mario 3, and I remember Bubble Bobble, Solstice, Demon Sword, Dragon Strike, and many others. Mario 3 is probably the best game to introduce you to the system though.
