Default MAME Plus! Plus Kaillera v0.164 doesn't show games I have in available section

I have them and I can run them but MAME doesn't show them where they belong. For example Samurai Shodown.

roms folder and not extracted (e.g. the zip for the game goes in the roms folder and must not be extracted or renamed)

That is not the issue though, the issue will be getting the correct set for the version of MAME that port is based on, that will be an older version

MAME always updates roms when the emulator itself is updated so older sets become unusable the same goes for older versions trying to run newer sets, some game may not have changed but others will of

Also note that you will want other needed files (depends on he game for some of these)

Parent rom (Just about all games have parent and clone roms)
bios (Not all systems need a bios image but plenty do)
other boards (Some systems may require dumps from other boards e.g. CPS2 games also require the Qsound board rom chips dumped as well as the game roms)
chd (These are other media dumps like CD, DVD, GD-Rom and HDD (Possibly others), converted to MAME's CHD format)

Thank you! So in my case I just need roms particularly for MAME 0.164?
    Download these packs?:
    MAME 0.161 ROMS
MAME 0.161 to 0.162 Update Pack
MAME 0.162 to 0.163 Update Pack
MAME 0.163 to 0.164 Update Pack

Even if I want just a couple of roms?

Grab the parent rom make sure there are no extra files needed like chd's or bios roms

if it reports missing roms or chd's you can try the update packs, saves grabbing the full set

Is there any reason why MAME 0.161 rompack has all ROMs in one 50 GB tar file instead of individual ROM zip files?
