Playing games on the computer is something you do at work
Bet you would just love my glorious little setup for maximum ease of use and no bullshit with my Desktop hooked to the TV and sound system.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

Nope. I'd still have to configure games instead of simply installing them.

There aren't many PC games I'd consider playing on a couch with a large TV over a desk setup. Racing and fighters are the only genres that come to mind, maybe flight sim.

What if they don't have native controller support and aren't compatible with modern OS?

It wouldn't be hard to assemble an XP machine for old problem games and easier DOS support.

I have several old machines with different OS. Win 3.11, win95, win98, XP. Also C64 and I have a really old Mac too.
But all I have setup to use atm are: 1 laptop and 1 desktop both running 7.
This leads back to lounge setup again.

Don't get me wrong, I have played PC games in the past but not for a long time now.
I'm all about console games and watching tv/movies in the lounge (which has my largest panel tv + home theatre)...occasionally I might go into the spare room to play something on older consoles via crt but that's pretty rare now.

There are some old things I still need but haven't got around to since I moved here over 10 years ago:
    Decent Voodoo card.
    A decent Amiga.
    Maybe an Atari ST.
Would like an Apple ][ for nostalgia as I used them a lot when I was in high school.

Other stuff too (eg C64 SD loader) but tbh mainly old consoles I don't have.

I've thought about building a couple legacy machines but, sourcing a good CRT is problematic at best here.

I have about 6 working colour crt but I wouldn't say they're high end and definitely not large. The Mac crt is just monochrome, and I have an IBM XT green screen stashed but no pc to go with it.

Oldest PC I have is probably the 286, but after the HDD died I never got around to sorting out a replacement...I possibly have what I need but it's an odd machine in that the bios won't take a HDD larger than 40MB iirc.

Have a 386 that's fully working, at least last time I checked anyway
Have spares for a lot of the old complete stuff.
