Random cases are usually poorly designed and they're unlikely to have the room for longer cards which are commonplace now.

don't have any laying around anymore and not many people just give them away around here. people around are always trying to make a buck anyway they can.

^^ study thermal dynamics...and yes.
the more heat exchanged/dispersed and diffused, the better for tech.
if it was considered a lifeform, it's the only one that runs better the cooler the environment.

You should build up some contacts with decent folk that actually give things away. Plenty of people still send stuff to the tip (I guess you call it the dump) but some are actually nice enough to enquire if you want something before turfing it, if they are aware that you are always looking for odd things that others no longer want.

There are almost no single slot cards these days and the longest cards are around 13 - 14" as far as I know (around the length of a VESA card).

If that's the case I can't see why you couldn't reuse an old large beige case. Don't like the colour? Paint it black or whatever. Want pretty lights? Add them.
