Same help and others on Raspberrypi3/retropie

Hi there chaps,
New to the whole scene of retro gaming using Emulators. I am currently setting up my Rasp pi3 and for the most part I'm making way on old console systems but Mame is an unknown beast to me lol. For example, Ive got Turtles arcade set 1 and 2 but the parent rom was the 4 player version, so I'm using that too. Do I really need all three though as the emulator shows all three in the menu? or do i need to put them into one folder? Also what are these update packs I see? Are they something I need to be installing? if so do I need just the recent release or all of them? Is there anywhere that explains all this that I can read? Captain America and the avengers will not play? I have Bios 1.33 are there more bios packs? Any help would be appreciated. Many Many thanks.

Just the Parent rom set is needed that is a full rom set, all other versions of a single game will use roms from the parent set and alt roms in it's own set that are different from the parent set

Update sets are more for those after full sets and keep up to date with the latest version of MAME that is up to version 0.174 and has a full set rom contents of 598 GB

Captain America and the avengers does not require any bios files Captain America and The Avengers (Asia Rev 1.4) is the Parent rom though for that game and is required to play any other version

Some games in the MAME set are not playable though, Captain America and The Avengers should be playable though depending on what version of MAME the port is based on

Bios 1.33 is very much out of date, best to grab the bios images individually if you even play any games that actually require a bios image
