Need help setting up my controller

This is my first post here. Reddit and Google haven't really given me the answer I'm looking for.

I currently have Goldeneye, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 downloaded. When I open the games, everything loads as it should; however, pressing any of the buttons on my controller does nothing. I have a Circka N64 controller running in to a May Flash USB adapter running into a custom built PC (Windows 10, 64bit, though to be completely honest, a friend of mine helped me with the build and by helped I mean he told me what to get and did all the work).

I tried configuring the controller settings, but when I press the button asking for a prompt, anything I do on the controller doesn't register. What am I doing wrong?

Try N-Rage For PJ64 plugin.
Options->settings->gamepad plugin->N-Rage For PJ64.press OK
Then options->configure controller and do the job there
if u have Xinput (xbox controler) check xinput, if not dont check that. rest u should know how to set buttons

Yeah, that's what I did and it won't recognize my commands. Do I need all of my plugins to be the same option? Also, I only have 3 drop downs (video, audio, and input). Gamepad wasn't an option.

you need to "Step Out of the box" and google. Grab latest Project 64

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "'Step Out of the box' and google."

I downloaded Project 64 and I was able to get the controller configured eventually (it was taking buttons I wasn't pressing faster than I could press them) but when I started the ROM I got "Unknown memory action. Emulation stopped."

u were saying that u do not have plugin that i mentioned, only way that would happen is if u have ancient version of emulator.

Alright, so I got the controller working. I figured out the problem and I feel really stupid. I had to select USB gamepad, but it wasn't on the main controller calibration page. The issue now is that when running the games, it's like someone is constantly pressing pause and I can't actually do anything.
