Default Large files copy from mass0 to mass1 with LaunchElf

    Hi,

when I copy a a large file with LaunchElf from mass0 to mass1, the current speed starts with aprox. 160 Kb/s but drops continiously. After 50 mb it's down to 90 Kb/s and after 200 mb down to 10 Kb/s. It takes finally over 10 hours to copy a Image file of 600 mb. Has anyone an idea why this happens ?
I tried different versions of FMCB & LaunchElf, also PS2 PHAT & SLIM ... no changes.

    Hardware: PS2/50004 with FMCB 1.95 + LaunchElf v.4.42_ev

Best regards and a great weekend - Yoohooo !

USB 1.? (I forget what the PS2 uses exactly) is very very slow, you are best off using a PC to do that sort of work

    Mod projects - XBOX
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 - online quests in offline mode packs [COMPLETE]
    [Quest Packs Collection]
GTA San Andreas - Hot Coffee [COMPLETE]
[Mod ready] & [Full ISO ready]
GTA San Andreas - Real Car Names extra content mod [WIP] [Back burner, just won't have the time ]
Please can all ESR users post your results here to help with the project and others wanting to use ESR

^^ usb 1.0/1.1 compliant across the board for ALL ps2 consoles, a standard.
    @ the op.
    to be expected, hardware limitations.
    above said it best.
for a dead specific situation like backing up an mc's worth of saves to usb, mark all (and copy to clipboard) and paste to target volume. (mass0:/)
if reversing the process, same again but 'MC PASTE' instead.
so the game saves actually behave as intended.
for larger files, either over FTP or other, it WILL take a LONG time.
    try an xbox for example.
if the 4g or less usb card does work with the console, the same limitations apply here..
takes AGES to copy bulk amounts of data using usb 1.0/1.1 hardware limitations, nothing can be done i'm afraid..

Thanks for your time & replies guys.
Well, no pc in da house. Only an old Samsung C6712 phone with MicroSD & USB adapter which makes many procedures very challenging & time consuming. But what a joy when the message "press START to launch the game" appears on the screen
Anyway, files up to 100 mb are no problem (incl. mc backups) as the transfer/copy rate doesn't drop below 50 Kb/s and once a file is done the next one starts with full speed (160 Kb/s) again.
What nags me is that even with the poor performance of USB 1.0/1.1 - the average copy speed should be more or less constant.

Not to worry ... the men who made time, made plenty of it

    Exclamation

that's true for the most part, read/write times should be relatively consistent.
THE NEXT TIME YOU'RE AT A COMPUTER ONLINE...
if you haven't already formatted the usb device in fat32, USE a specific gui for the purpose.
    sadly, m$ os's don't do a good job where it's required.
the tool i use for usb cards and other static media cards is 'fat32 GUI formatter' for xp, works a treat, and no bs, and it's FREE. Download Links:

    ...
if the target device is fragmented/full of data that's been moved to and from without properly stacking it, that'll cause gaps in the data layout, a copy is just that, and WON'T preserve relative positions on the target volume, just go where there's space available.
1, look for a specific usb fat32 format tool and razz the usb device in question through it.
2, after the FULL format, try again.
    ...
there's no guarantee it will help the situation, but it sure won't make it any worse.
    all the best, good luck!
