EDIT - Apologies, I have just read the linked article in your opening post, and its not actually official or anything, just a one-man crusade at the moment. But even so, there has been far too much of this in recent times and to be honest, if I was of an ethnic origin other than British I would be offended by all this pandering and pussyfooting.

Agreed. Why change institutional and historical things such as this to appease the clearly insane, red-tape influenced beaurocrats? They are so out of touch with regular members of the public that they cant see the anger and bewilderment that changes such as this would cause.

Ah well, just leave them to it. If thats what makes them happy Im not going to piss on their fire. Instead Ill leave that to the backlash that will no doubt follow from the media and public, should this story gain any foundation.

What a lame way to reflect multicultural britain... It's not like the colours on the flag mean anything towards that aspect, are there red people in Britain? No. Are there blue people in Britain? No. So will adding some black stripes really mean anything? No.

No, the only resentment I feel is towards the people who engineer this rubbish. Its a sad situation to be in, for as you have said (and I bet most others of various origins take a similar view) you dont really care, but the powers that be insist on pushing stuff like this forward.

Like the vast majority of British citizens, I of course accept, and appreciate, the racially diverse nature of this country. That doesnt bother me in the slightest. What does bother me however is the fact that everything has to reflect this otherwise be deemed racist.

It is, to coin depressingly overused media phraseology, politically correctness gone mad.

Hmmmn I dont think it goes quite as deep as that. In fact, like most of this sort of thing, it is purely a cosmectic reform that has no real effect on the way people think. If I was to look at that flag I wouldnt exactly think "Oh look, thats multicultural Britain and everything, that is!". I would more likely to be thinking "Who the f*** has f***ed up the f***ing flag?" Or at least, words to that effect.

I totally agree with what you say. It is a big prob as is without this adding to it.

The flag has noting to do with this and putting black on the flag will simple make it into a racist thing.

We have a similar case stateside. There is a big debacle over whether or not this state should keep the flag used by the Confederacy in the US Civil War, use the state flag prior to 1859, or adopt a new one. I could care less... and not just because I am democratic in my position towards "state's rights." It is just a stupid flag. It does not symbolize anything to me. I salute but one flag.

hmm well i live in America, so i doesnt bug me, but i think the people should choose if you flag should stay or shange, but hey it could be worse, the could have put dragon ball z on it(just kidding that would be a nightmare lol)
