Default DSTwo Plus - 3DS games help?

Hi all. Got a DSTwo Plus on the way, and with all the Gateway stuff I'm pretty worried about bricking my 3DS trying to run 3DS games on it - my question is, is there a specific firmware I can download or other precautions I can take to avoid it? Would using firmware from before the DSTwo Plus's release protect me, or is it best to just stay away from 3DS games altogether? I really can't afford to ruin this console.

Also, I'm not quite sure how to go about installing .CIA 3DS games in the first place...any tips would be much appreciated! I'm running 9.2.0, JSYK.

    Thanks

You need a cia installer to use cia installable version that will install to the virtual nand on the SD card (not the MicroSD for the kit)

No idea for the rest of it I have a Gateway myself
