Post Where should I sell modded consoles

So I have been modding Nintendo Wiis, GameCubes, Xboxs and Xbox 360s for a while now just to make a bit of extra money but recently I got an email from Nintendo basically telling me they'll wreck my sh*t unless I stop. I have been selling on Craigslist but this is way less lucrative (and I had someone try to sell me guns). Is there any way for me to sell consoles like this legally online without Nintendo suing me?

Also if you know where is a good place to buy low cost/ broken consoles; Ebay doesn't work for this.

It's pretty much because of where you live. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't modifying consoles in the US technically illegal? And if it is legal then why have so many people in the US always stated it's impossible to find console modding businesses? (we have legit businesses over here that specialise in console modding, parts and accessories).

    Spoiler warning:

It is legal to mod consoles but not to distribute them here in the US. Its kind of a legal grey area however and I'm sure there is some sort of loophole I can use to sell them legally.

No. Even if what you're doing is in some legal loophole, if Nintendo notices you they'll attempt to rape you to death. Operating on Craigslist is about as good as it gets.

Where do people in your town bring their electronics garbage? Go there and talk to the staff. It's probably cheaper for them to give you stuff than it is for them to send it out for recycling.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

Dang, well what about Microsoft & Sony what about them? I've seen online stores for modded xbox 360s that have been up for ever. Is there anyway to sell them on ebay or should I have to make my own site to sell from.

I have already checked with them and they refused to give me anything (even software) they said once it arrives at the center it's state property.

You better check the EULA you get with the machines and put the legal jargon through a strainer to understand the ins and outs because if nintendo can rape anyone on youtube for even a microsecond of footage from their IPs then just think of what they can do to you for selling modded consoles with you breaking the license by modding then selling them.

My best guess: Get into making skins/covers and sell them as "Console Customization: Call to Discuss". Then if they bring up mods, inform them you can do that. Put a legit face on it.

Ok, unsurprising. The staff probably doesn't have any permissions to hand out stuff, there are various liabilities to consider. But you can get some contact information for their boss. Do everything above board, don't say you're modding systems. Say you're looking to refurbish useful end of life tech. If anybody says no, just ask more questions.

Not many people want to pay the extra money for case mods sadly I've tried before and it takes a long time for them to sell and they take much more time to make. I would prefer to just sell the with the software mods.

Does anyone know anything about how Microsoft or Sony handles mods?

Both Sony and Microsoft have taken action in one way or another towards users when logging in with hacked consoles and openly selling hacked consoles

Brand has nothing to do with anything though it is still illegal to mod and sell consoles so if you go that way make sure you don't do that openly

    Mod projects - XBOX
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 - online quests in offline mode packs [COMPLETE]
    [Quest Packs Collection]
GTA San Andreas - Hot Coffee [COMPLETE]
[Mod ready] & [Full ISO ready]
GTA San Andreas - Real Car Names extra content mod [WIP] [Back burner, just won't have the time ]
Please can all ESR users post your results here to help with the project and others wanting to use ESR

It isn't illegal everywhere. As I said there are businesses here that openly mod consoles and sell related parts.
Companies can't prosecute if the law doesn't back them up. US or EU law does not apply to every country in the world.
But yeah not much point having a modded Sony/M$ console if you want to use any online features.

Yeah, Craigslist is probably the best that you're going to get, just don't make it blatantly obvious that what you're selling is a modded console. Get to know your customers a bit over the phone before you even give whereabouts information and such, I'm not sure if big corporations like Nintendo like to send out people to crack down on this sort of thing but I'm pretty sure they at the least crawl Craiglist listings, CL doesn't like to do anything about these things unless a business complains, in which case they'll willingly give out information if I'm not mistaken, CL won't get involved in law stuff so you've no layer of protection there. The best that you can do is as somebody mentioned, mark it as a "Call to discuss" in the listing and get to know your customers a little better before you sell them a modded console. Please note I've never even used Craigslist before beyond job listings, so I don't know how selling products goes on there but I'm just throwing assumption left and right here. You could also sell them here on EPForums but you'll need 50 posts first. http://www.epforums.org/forumdisplay...-The-Pawn-Shop
