Default Can't configure controller in EPsxe?

I'm using an xbox one controller. I go to config -> gamepad -> gamepad -> port 1 etc..

Whenever I click to enter a button it says: 1jB_UP, that's what it says on all spaces to input buttons. When I try to input a button from my controller, I will see the button I input for 1 sec and then it will revert back to 1jB_UP immediately.

Is there any way to fix this?

This type of thing happens when a stick or other analog input is stuck, even slightly. Unfortunately all the information I'm finding while searching for this is "update controller firmware" and "buy a new controller". With a 360 controller you were able to configure it through windows Control Panel. Here's a link to that info that *might* help.

Sounds like the deadzone is pretty low, you might want to look up a method of increasing the deadzone if possible.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

just move the stick until it stops doing that (Yup that is a common thing and it usually is because one of the sticks is not centered (make sure the sticks are centered up when you plug it in as doing so without will always think that the centered point is where the stick is when you plug it in)) or do what Warrior hinted at if needs be and make the dead zone bigger, anything outside the dead zone = the pad is active even if it is only slightly out
