Default Is it possible to mod a PS2 game?

I've been wondering this for a year now. I haven't found useful information to classify as 'possible', but I've been finding .cfg files in games like GTA, but it was handling.cfg files. I've also found .txt and an .ini file waiting to be written to the disc. I checked it out and it's naming the directory it's going to. I think it's a PS2 based directory.

    But what are your thoughts?

Yes I've seen some PS2 games modded.
Common mods are undubs, maybe there are some translations too (not sure about PS2 in particular though there are translated PSX games).
Another one I noticed a while ago is GTA San Andreas Dragon Ball Z Mod. There might be others but I can't think of any atm.

Huh. What file types were they? Or do you not know what they are?

No I don't know. I have grabbed English translations for some games and patched them (eg PSP, DS), and I messed around with some mods for TES Morrowind on Xbox years ago (the mods were ported from PC by other people) but I don't have any experience modding games myself.

Huh. Do the game files have to appear on the disc with certain file types? And what was the programming language you used?

If you wish to know more in depth I suggest asking around at places like GBATemp and Romhacking.net, they are all about modding games and can surely give you the lowdown.

Edit: Regarding from what I know about Gamehacking it is not easy, take for instance the Tales games.

The translators/hackers had to program into the existing game to get the translated english text in and add features such as soft cutscene and skit subtitles.

THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

Do what your user name hints at do a bit of research as hacking games in general is not an easy task a lot of games (most games that is) need reverse engineering some games that have been hacked previously or partially may have some tools already made for game x so does most the hard work for you, even will pre done tools you may still struggle, I know I done a bunch of mods on various platforms some with tools but there is often still a lot of user involvement needed either before the tools are used or while they are used.
