    Default .iso vs .bin/.cue

Hi everyone! I know the preferred format for PSX games is a .bin image accompanied by a .cue sheet, and that some games will have multiple .bins which will host separate audio tracks, meaning that music will work only if we start the game from the correct .cue sheet. However, I prefer using .iso files for a couple of reasons:

    1. It is a free format, rather than a CDRWIN proprietary like .cue/.bin
    2. Having a single file is more elegant than having 8 .bins and a .cue

So, I'd want to know if an .iso file, opportunely engineered, can achieve exactly the same as multiple .bin tracks regulated by a .cue, even in cases like this or this

    The Dude minds.

Mixed CDs must be in bin or ccd/alcohol format or they will lose the audio tracks.

iso is only for data discs.

Bin is the only way you are getting redumped cds unless you wish to convert them to a preferred format.

Redump uses open source software to dump into bin so not seeing the issue.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

*.iso format can only store a single track all audio tracks need to be stored externally and must be accompanied by a cue sheet still to achieve that
*.bin format can store data tracks and audio tracks (cdda) inside a single bin image with the aid of a cue file
Most disc image formats can store multi tracks, just not *.iso, there are far too many formats to list though

There are single file formats that can store multi tracks but you are moving into formats that are not as commonly supported as bin+cue formats, like Nero's nrg format or Discjuggler cdi format

Multi bin format disc images are easy to convert to a single binary image file with a cue sheet (Note most software does not do this well for PSX cd images due to the special xa header psx cd's often use)

The ECM and APE guide takes you through the converting process, found at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?57757
