the virus is from somthing that you downloaded...especially since you said you coincidentley found the backdoor in your computer.....

But...you should check your start up...and uncheck anything that looks unfamiliar, do so that it (the virus) does start up when you start up your machine...like a virus does.....

Also....while looking at your start up you might want to go to THOSE files that look unfamilair and see wher it its and when it got there....then you can tell if it came iwth your machine..your add on....or some thing that just pooped up on April blah blah 2002............

Finally.....have someone show you how to edit your registry.....if you can do this AND the startup thing...then you can rid your computer of that Virus...once and for all!!!!!

start > my computer > change a setting (under system task) > network and internet connections > network connections > (then click on your network connetion and a little drop down menu should come down a little and click on...) change setting of this connection > (then you should get what looks like the picture i attatched, then uncheck...) file and printer sharing for microsoft network and hit ok

i know there is a simpler way to get there, but i just got winXP about a week ago and things are set up a little different. harder to find things, lol. but you should have this unchecked unless you are on a network with other computers in your house that NEED access to your computer files. if so then you should set up at least passwords for your folders and drives. it's not fool proof. like ganon was saying, if someone realllyyy wants to hack you they will. but most likely it's not the case, this will deter most "hackers" if that's the problem.

it's like car thieves. if you leave your keys in your car with the door open your car will be stolen very easily. but if you have a club and a security alarm it's going to deter MOST thieves. if they REAALLY want your car it's gone. no matter what you have on it.

file and printer sharing is completely useless for attackers if you didnt put sharing on your local hard drive and setted permissions to "all" (read, modify, delete, write). he tought about the famous NetBIOS exploit witch is maybe 4% accurate...when you open windows explorer, if the hard drive icon doesnt have "palm that it's holding it below", sharing is disabled...

    Default u guys are funny.

y are we talking about firewalls?

1st: First run a virus program (norton anti-virus) on your whole system. To get rid of any virus if their is/are any.

2nd: Get all the updated patch's for xp go to windowsupdate.com.

3rd: If you still want a firewall read the firewall thread in the main "computer tech" section.

4th: NEVER INSTALL/OPEN ANY SOFTWARE WITHOUT FIRST RUNNING A VIRUS CHECK ON IT.

*also important check your event viewer and services to see whats happening in your computer* both things can be found in your control panel -> adminstrative tools section
