Question Which PSP Version is the best for emulating?

    Hello!
I'm looking for a new PSP for emulating specially PSX Games.
Or would be a PS Vita better for Emulation?
Which generation (PSP or Vita) is the best one to play PSX games?
The Vita would be cool for the Remote Play feature but that's not the main reason...

    greetings

    I use both the PSP 1000 & 2000 personally.
As long as you are also using Popsloader (because some games need it), then it shouldn't matter which version you get if all you are concerned with is playing PS1 games on it.

So basically it's down to whatever version you prefer as all the versions of the normal PSP are different sizes/weights and have minor differences between them.

I have both a Vita and a PSP

    PSP is easy to mod
Vita is best for PSX because of the controls and supports analog sticks that the PSP does not but modding a Vita is not as easy as a PSP and must be on certain firmware versions last time I looked
Vita also has a better & bigger screen

I use my PSP mostly without using Popsloader unless the game was not officially released on PSN then you may need Popsloader (games uploaded here tagged (PSone Classics) are official PSN versions that do not require Popsloader)
I use my Vita only for PSX games that I have actually paid for over PSN as it is not modded and is kept up to date

Remote play is kinda sucky, it works ok to a certain range then it will cut out due to loss of signal and the controls are not the same as a PS4 pad due to lack of controls on the vita, it will use various touch screen or back touch pad to replace the missing buttons

also note that both the PSP and Vita will do much the same for PSX games
PSP does not have 4 triggers it has 2 so the fill in buttins are done via the stick or dpad depending on how you set it up (I use the D-Pad for movement as the stick was never practical on the PSP)
PSvita also only has 2 triggers but has more button configs due to the touch screen and touch back panel, the sticks are much better on the Vita though and are usable

Do some research on modding a Vita though if you plan to play backup PSX games on it

PS the Pops emulator comes with the firmware of the PSP and the Vita it is an official emulator

I use my PSP 1004 with Popsloader on CFW 5.00 m33 to play PSX-games.
I think it´s the best CFW to play PSX-games.

The 6.60 is perfect for PSX there are more config option with newer versions of Pops and the older games work even better

Popsloader still comes in handy for the few games that are not officially released for Pops (aka PSone Classics are official PSX2PSP aere not) i.e. games created with PSX2PSP run just fine with pops 6.00 to 6.60 and with extra features that are missing from Pops 5.xx and under

FW 5.XX is very out of date and is missing features of it's own though that may not bother you too much I guess, depends what you are wanting out of your PSP

Later PSone Classics are not going to work on 5.XX though and all the PSX2PSP games run fine with 6.60 though popsloader will be needed by some games to use pops 6.XX under 6.60

A 2K is possibly one of the best PSP options for perm firmware (1K is much the same but the screen is not as good), though later models do have better screens higher refresh rates and crisper image ect, none perm firmware is not a big issue though, it takes seconds to restore the mod after a power down though I would find it a little annoying.
