Default Question about .iso and .img files.

Most of the PSX ecm files I come across are .img. The program I use on a Mac to unecm the file doesn't do .img, so I use .iso instead. Will this conversion make a difference? I'm under the impression that .iso and .img are pretty much interchangeable, but I'm wondering if there is a slight enough difference between them to cause issues.

I'm playing on a Rapsberry Pi 2 running RetroPie and PCSX-Rearmed. So far the games seem to work in the .iso format (a few needed the .ccd file to run). I'm just thinking even though it seems like they run okay, maybe something is off that I don't notice because I changed the file from .img to .iso, like music not playing when it should be.

Yes it will break the image destroy the XA headers use for Movie and sound files if the game uses XA format sound and STR Movies of PSX games it will also nulify CDDA tracks if it had any

CDDA will always be lost in iso format as it does not support it
XA header will be lost with most converting software, but not all so you may of getting away with that

the ccd file will load the img file though it supports ccd files and or cue files so no need to convert

Thanks for letting me know. I'll redo the files using the command line method so they stay .img.

It is very possible that the gui version just puts iso on the end rather than actually changing the format

You can find out by doing one by the command line and the same one via the gui and doing a crc check of both the iso file and the img file if they match up then it just changes the file ext, if that is the case you can use the gfui then just rename the file to have img on the end instead of iso
