Cryptopsy are a rather Brutal yet interesting Death metal band.
Their Drummer has incredible talent and their Vocalist(Lord Worm) has rather sick yet well written lyrics.

Yea there are definitely a shitload of Metallica haters on those forums. Basically ive mainly only seen them praise and worship Judas Priest , Iron Maiden and Dark Angel (mainly Darkness Descends)....

I don't particularly see much wrong with Dimmu Borgir ..they're decent...they're certainly not black metal as they claim to be...they're just decent extreme gothic i believe..

Opeth is definitely progressive...but not really death metal.
They're not aggressive enough to be death metal...i'd actually consider them to be more like doom metal...because they are rather like...

Try out Anathema and Candlemass.

"Inner Silence" by Anathema is a great song......its really short but its great. Also, "suicide veil" ..which is also by Anathema is a good song with a nice bass...

yea..the black metal scene is filled with obscenities ( like Mayhems old vocalist blowing his own brains out and the photograph ending up as an album cover)...hell...Emperor's...

Marduk is not pure black metal...it's more...norsecore.....black metal is grim and lifeless...stuff like Darkthrone and Burzum ...terrible terrible production quality and minimalism in the music,...
