Game Boy DMG backlight question

So I've got a BennVenn 3" backlit screen kit for DMG.

The backlight for the screen has 2 wires, so I was thinking of putting in a switch to turn the backlight on and off. Is the any reason why I shouldn't do this? Just asking in case I've overlooked something but I can't think of why I wouldn't be able to do this.

The mainboard I'm using for this build is CPU-08, so it's the later Play it Loud type with glob chips and the apparently better voltage reg.


Another thing, would it be a good idea to remove the DC jack from the mainboard?


Please note:
I haven't butchered a pristine DMG for this build. I got a salvaged CPU-08 mainboard, cheap repro shell, new speaker and Zero type blank glass screen lens.
