Dolphin emulator not recognizing gcm files.

just yesterday i downloaded dolphin and downloaded both super mario sunshine and super smash brothers melee. Apon downloading and putting both into the same folder (extracted) i set a direct path to that folder to find it wont find the games. after changing files such as s-sms001 to winrar by refering to this link http://www.wikihow.com/Play-Super-Sm...elee-on-the-PC i found that inside files such as sms001 a gcm file was in there. This however did not fix the problem. i tried renaming the gcm file in the rar file but winrar does not alow that. Ive now tried changing the files back but winrar wont let me. When i attempt to redownload it winrar assumes i want the files such as s-sms001 automatic in rar format. Ive tried installing and reinstalling many times to find no luck with this situation.

Ive used dolphin 4.0.2 and 4.0.1 when i did this.

Do not rename archive files, extract from the first part using 7zip.
You should be able to rename .gcm to .iso but afaik Dolphin will use .gcm images anyway.

Winrar can be confusing for some so I suggest you use 7zip for everything and only use winrar if 7zip won't work at all (which is unusual, but I think there might be a recent rar5 archive type that 7zip doesn't like...not sure).

To speed things up i just uninstalled winrar because when i download the game it automatically comes as a rar format

i downloaded another game just so im not constantly downloading near 1G games and here is now what i have Attachment 43904

i finally got a game to work! although because ive got to go ill post if this problem happens with melee still. Thanks alot deadlegion for the help.

Just use 7-zip instead

and make sure you extract the main archive first
and then extract the split archive

split archives come in many forms
(# = a number * = there is more to the file name)
*.r## may or may not include a *.rar, if it includes a *.rar file then extract via that if it comes with no *.rar then extract via the lowest numbered *.r##
*Part##.rar is another form that you just extract via the lowered numbered file
*.### is another form that you just extract via the lowered numbered file

In general you extract via the lowest numbered file, but there are exceptions to that like the first example (not exclusive to rar type archives either I just used that as a sample)

Note on extraction errors:
The above method avoids users errors as trying to extract multi part archives while they are still inside of a master archive will give back an error or just not extract correctly, but getting errors at any other point means that the archive is corrupt that can be caused by faulty a download (then just re-download it) or it was corrupt on the server.
