[HELP] Mortal Kombat Deception & Armageddon discs crashing at startup on softmodded Xbox

I'm running a US NTSC Xbox with UnleashX dash, 500GB Hitachi IDE/PATA hard drive (still working), and a brand spanking new DVD-ROM drive.
Every disc is running fine except for MORTAL KOMBAT DECEPTION and MORTAL KOMBAT ARMAGEDDON. Both are authentic Xbox discs, bought them from a local game store I do repairs for now and then, they worked on their NON-MODDED Xbox at the store and both discs are in decent condition.
Here's what happens...
1. Disc loads just fine.
2. Midway title card plays just fine.
3. MK Deception logo shows up. "Press Start".
4. I press Start, it acts like it's going to load the game menu, but it stays on the black screen and nothing else happens.

Not entirely sure what or why this is happening. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!
