RetroArch Controller Disconnect In Windows 10

I'm having problems with my wired controller always disconnecting in RetroArch when the PC goes into sleep mode or when powered down. When the computer is turned back on, the controller inputs are unresponsive. I have to unplug the controller USB cable and plug it back in each time to get it working again.

I'm using a Wii Classic controller connected to a Mayflash adapter. The controller inputs are saved in RetroArch so I don't have to assign the button layout each time the emulator is opened. Is this a Windows 10 or RetroArch problem? I would like the controller be responsive after the computer is turned back on from sleep mode or hard boot. Any suggestions?
