okay, what is the filename suffix? (zip, rar, 7z etc).
run the downloaded item through another archiver for mac os.
you should get the raw file if expanded properly.
if it's a rom image (rom, bin, iso...etc) then all is well.
as for emulators, not my bag, others will have to chip in.
...
get another archive handler for the mac.
redownload the item again, and compare hashtags.
sometimes, DL's can corrupt on the transmission, joys of HTTP hosts. :(
