Not for that price. And my interest in the console depends on how future games become available.
For NeoGeo games?? No way. I'd pay $50 tops for this. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate NeoGeo or anything... in fact I really like the system and SOME of their games. There are waaaay too many fighting games, and shooters, and just clones in general. And to add to what Gypsy said, I've been hearing about this system for a while now and not one site has ever mentioned how new games will be available. All they talk about are the 20 preloaded games and that's it. Not a good sign in my book.
I'd go as high as $60. Their games just weren't great enough, anyway. I admit, though, if they had all the S. Shodown games on it, I'd probably go for it. The thing is though, I'd pay that $130 if it were a mini console with all the Guilty Gear games (Yes, I know it's a different company. This is a for instance), that's for sure.
Ever since I first heard about it I was excited, but saw not many people were, and they really felt it was too much even it came with 20 games. The first list of games was better than the second list they have, and they still havent announced new titles for it. So i think I will get one, but I understand why people dont like it from hearing their criticisms. I dont know why some people say it should be as low as $30 though, thats really ridiculous. Probably cause theyre seeing it as a toy, like those handhelds in the 90's that played one game and would break after a few years? But this is a real system, and comes wit ha great controller and a AES looking dock. They need to announce more titles for people to be more enthused.
You realize that this DOES NOT come with a joystick, that is a separate purchase for the $130 model. Have you looked at the list of games?? Almost everything on the list are the first gen titles that were release which you can pick up the real carts with packaging for a real NeoGeo for around $5 to $10 each. Metal Slug is the only expensive game in this set, but who doesn't have a version of that in some form by now? Let's also not forget this is an antiquated system, with no wifi or ad-hoc play, and 20 year old technology. Yeah, $30 sounds about right...
Yeah, you're right but I would rather shell out the money and have a nice looking console/collectors item than this portable lump that I would never take anywhere with me. Have you seen those consolized MVS systems? They're pricey, but custom built for the arcade boards (which are considerably cheaper than some of the later cart versions).
Just thought I would mention there's already a very similar thread to this one here, seems a bit silly to have two; http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...andheld-system
Yeah but that one is spammed with stupid youtube video posts. This one is much cleaner....
When I hear about this all I think about is the home unit, not just the portable one. I think its worth getting at that range since its the only way to have a working AES in my home. The price is good, and I think people should take more into account that this thing is going to be made as well as a DS or such portable console, so why not charge that price since it comes with 20 games.
I would be. If I had enough, I would get two just to play it with someone else. I've been playing the king of fighters r-1 and r-2, snk vs capcom match of the millineum. and samurai showdown 2 for a while before I had came across the neo geo x. I thought it was a reasonable price compared to the previous neo geo on amazon and ebay lol
Hell yes I'd buy that. I paid more than that for 1 game when I owned the system in the early 90's. You kids got it too easy these days.......spoiled bastards...
Perhaps it's Not for that price.
Well, no, I wasn't getting ripped off in the sense that at the time that was the standard price of those games back then (if you knew your gaming history)....And now I'm ripping them off by emulating all those games anyway....And what does the DX stand for anyway...?
Didn't notice the $130 price tag before. I thought it was less when I searched on ebay and amazon. Must've been the older neo geos lol
I went to their site again tonight to see if any new info was available, and saw a picture of Ninja Masters box art.

I assume this is just the first game to come out, I downloaded the rom off here and see how good it is. Didnt find anymore info on it, including how much itll be, but $20 if its good Ill get it. Im planning on buying the system and storing the box somewhere safe. I still have my ps2 box, but its beat up, gonna take care of this one.
I suck at fighting games. It has good characters, and cool attacks and graphics. If youre good at fighting games youll probably like this, it gives you the choice of if you want to use a weapon or not. Ill pick it up again and try it out until I lose to the old man another 10 times.
I would like this system to play through Metal Slug, but I am getting a Vita soon and then I would like a Wii-U so I don't think I will be able to get this any time soon.
Yeah its almost a terrible time for something like this coming out with the U coming out, but a different market is focused for this system. I was thinking of it again, and Ive decided Im not going to get a U, and want this instead. Paying $200 is good motivation to master Samurai Shodown more than having it on my computer without an official stick. I think eventually Ill get a psp or vita so i can do emulation on the go or something.
I think I'll pass this, I have the Wii U to buy, and a very large amount of games to buy... once I get a job.
I'd pay 30.
Oh wait, no I wouldn't, I'd buy a DS flashcart or maybe a used PSP and mod it with the money.
I screwed up, Ninja Masters comes with the deluxe set.

And gunslinger boy, stop saying youd buy it for $30. thats ridiculous.
Depends, some people genuinely would prefer emulation and piracy over the novelty of official hardware and game boxes etc.
It looks so nice though, I want it really badly but I dunno... Wii-U with new games or Neo-Geo X with sexy classic library?

I'd certainly rather play the games using these than a DS or PC. I wonder if developers will start making games for it again? Would be great to see a rebirth of retro games.
Those pics make my pric hard. There's been some nice lookin genesis games made by Indie's of late...if they started doing that for the Neo Geo I'd shit myself...Quote:

Yea, pretty much all of the good Neo Geo games are on compilation discs or available on PSN or the Wii store. Hell, some of those were even remade with online capabilities. Besides, this thing is launching at a bad time. It has a December release date, which will be right after the Wii U launch, so I'm not so sure their timing is too good.
I think the sort of gamer they are targeting with the Neo Geo X is probably someone who isn't really interested in current-gen games, therefore less likely to be getting a Wii-U.
Why won't SNK make a Crystalis 2 instead?
That would be pretty cool. Crystalis was such a good game.
OT: I think the reason they are doing this though is so they can get a cut of the system sales (obviously). What I mean is there are several outlets that are consolizing the arcade units and selling them for big bucks to get them in collector's homes, and SNK want's a piece of that pie. So, solution is simple - release a handheld that you can play on the go, or attach it to a TV and use an old school controller to get the full NeoGeo console experience at a fraction of the price those modders are charging. Some of those consolized Neos are upwards of $600. I still don't know how they're handling games though outside of that inital batch.
I was watching a few hands-on previews on youtube and the hardware looks very well built. I already have SNK Arcade Classics for the Wii but plan to buy just the handheld unit for some Neo Geo on the go.
Yeah, I agree. I was pretty skeptical of this system at first, but it's grown on me. I like how the docking station is a smaller NeoGeo system, and since it also has HDMI out, that is fantastic. I might pick on of these up if I can find one. I still don't know anything about extra games though and how they'll be distributing and pricing. If they were to release games at $10 to $15 a pop I might consider building up the entire library as it's released.
I saw its being pushed back to the 18th. I know I was pretty excited about this a while back, but Im thinking Im gonna wait for it to not sell wall (which is a high probability), and just buy it cheap.
Does anyone know if the manufacturers made the hardware itself, or that its borrowing from other emulation consoles to get the job done? I saw you cant save games, thats not very good.
Its out today
It's $199.99 at Best Buy, Target, and even on the official website....
If it wasn't so easy to emulate Neo Geo i might actually care about this, if SNK make a Hyper Neo Geo 64 X id buy it

Its been hacked, wonder what other games can be played on it? And they have ps1 bios someone said. ??????
