The Gamers' Voice: Looking for writers

Hello gents, as some of you may or may not know, EP has recently launched a new section by the name of The Gamers' Voice. Right now we've got a few writers throwing up random articles on whatever tickles our fancy. While the project has some potential, it's missing a little something. And that something is more content.

That's where you all come in. We're looking for people who can submit articles for TGV. It can be a one-off deal where you put together something, submit it, then walk away or you could become a regular writer. The choice is completely yours. It can also be a great source for a little publicity for your youtube channel, blog, podcast, or what have you. Never hurts to have extra people enjoying that sweet LP or that rant you wrote somewhere about that game you just finished.

As for what we want content wise, we're leaving that completely open. As long as it's roughly PG-13, not blatant spam, and not something you swiped from another writer we'll probably be throwing it up there. All submissions are quite welcome.

No need to worry about silly things like "deadlines", "quotas" and the like. It's really a non-intimidating gig. If you can read and write you're in. If you can be entertaining while doing it, you're super-in. Dropping off an article whenever you can is all we need.

We're looking at having a couple regular features (under-appreciated characters, five minute reviews, a weekly game-recommendation column), and you can already see examples of a few of them on TGV already. It's a great place to start if you're one of those people that wants to help but you happen to be a little bit unsure of what exactly you can write. Feel free to browse the stuff we already have up, maybe it'll inspire you and get those creative juices flowing when you realize "I can do this". A few writers have also got a few ideas in the pipes, but I think someone else might be more prepared to discuss those at length than I am.

As for the features, we're currently sorta throwing a lot of things out to see what sticks. If you've got some feedback feel free to let us hear it. If you've got an idea for something we could make a regular feature, go ahead and throw it out there. Maybe someone can make something cool happen with it. If you can write an introductory article for it, even better.

I have a blog where I review most anything, but I do the occasional review and sometimes list or editorial. I'll try submitting my Jamestown review later.

BTW, what size should I make the images?

It has been something that I would consider, However I have been known to have a controversial opinion in some things and im not sure that is what TGV is looking for.

I also do now run 2 youtube channels with gaming content but I think my second channel wouldn't much fit the bill given Im the only EP Member outta all that would be in it, not to mention it would feel personally like a cheap self promotion to not back it up with some decent content.

I'll think it over in my head after the Killing Floor event I am running is finished tomorrow.

Controversial is good. One of the perks of TGV being what it is (and being affiliated with us filthy pirate scum) is that we don't really have to answer to the usual channels of tampering. We're very non-censorship/pro-unpopular opinion around these parts.

As for the youtube channels, I guess that'd be up to whoever. But word around the water cooler is that we're open to whatever we can get to help fill an update schedule. If it's just going to be a video by itself, that's totally fine since we already have people doing that.

Whichever size fits. Personally I find something similar to the size gare used here to be appropriate. You can see what's going on in the picture but it's not causing you to have to scroll to see shit.

Number two would be "how often I should write the articles?"
And number 3 would be if they must be about new games. Due to a lot of economical and political yadda yadda which I'm obviously not responsible of, yet affected by, the most up-to-date games I could play would be those of the Wii...

1. It's never too late. We can never have too many writers or too many articles. We're hoping to eventually have at least a new article up daily. In order to pull that off it's never a bad idea to have plenty of people.

2. Write whenever you feel like it. We all know how various things can get in the way and how writing articles isn't always something you can find time for. We aren't about to push anyone into writing when they aren't in the mood for it. If we only get an article every once in a blue moon, that's perfectly acceptable. Although if anyone can become a weekly article writer that'd be awesome.

3. You can write about whatever you want. If that happens to be retro reviews or your opinions on games from a few years back then that's cool. This is a site dedicated to games of the past so it's not really like we're going to turn away someone for talking about games that didn't come out last week.

No.1 I'm sad face Kessen 2 was shat apon. I love that game.

No.2 Is there any way the page will be organized by month/year? I really want to see the first post and do a quick look at some of the articles, but I don't know how long I'll have to go. Having it organized by author would be great as well if it can be done. I would be willing to spend my time doing it if somebody is needed to do that sort of thing.

It's good to see interest in this, writer-wise. We'd also really appreciate some feedback on the things already up there, either here or on the comment section of the articles. :>

Edit: Oh, and it should be mentioned. Those interested in helping will be given access to our team-talk thingie, where the entire writing staff discuss stuff like new ideas and whatnot. Exciting stuff, yes!?

Question - What file format should we write the articles in? TXT, HTML, DOC?(I use Open Office so any text based format is fine)

Something non-unusual would be fine. People interested in doing more than one article will be given their own writer-accounts, meaning you write the article in wordpress and hit submit. Then the article is approved and published.

From what I read, it gave the impression you liked it because of how awful it was. "The story isn’t that important though, and neither is the mind-numbingly boring game play." Coming from your own hands is a line that suggests it isn't a good game at all, just weird and dumb to the point it's entertaining. I actually liked it on it own's merit and found it difficult when you put it to max difficulty. One of my favorite videogame memories came from level 1 on max difficulty when I used the pincer technique on a bridge to force an enemy retreat and won with a little less than 1,000 troops.

Nonsensical rather than awful. Seriously, what's up with the Nanmans? :wacko: And Cheng Yu and Yue Yin are no doubt the creapiest characters I've ever seen in a video game.

Haven't tried the hardest difficulty (just unlocked it), and honestly, I never will. The gameplay is, in my opinion, way to tedious for that. Not that it wasn't fun doing the dishes while beating the second to last Liu Bei level, but you know. :P

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but would you really have liked the gameplay if it was a random, non-ROTK-related game? It's just swarm up on enemy -> Special ability -> rush over and over and over again. :shrug:

I would have liked it regardless of the background setting because there is more to the game once you play it on hard. For example, the example of Rush you mentioned lowers your own defense and you will lose more troops if you are being double teamed. Formations matter once you figure out army placement and selecting your training in between fights does have an impact, although the game itself doesn't tell you how effective it is.

As it was, it was a crap shoot for using your special ability as much as possible (although magic damage potential went down if you spammed spells one after the other) and I hated having to watch our those lame magic attacks. I'm in the same camp as you are when it comes to not trying to say you're wrong as well. I wanted more clarification as to why you felt the way you wrote the piece and you did just that. You are totally right when it comes to the comment section, it was mainly me being lazy and just replying here when you responded here. It would be incredibly cheesy to just copy and paste this conversation and place it in the comments for your piece.

I didn't even know rush lowered your defence. :lol Oh, and I sort of never changed formations after the second level, since it didn't seem to matter. But, yeah, I get that the higher difficulty makes the game very different.

Basically, the magic animation part was the point I was mostly trying to make. Why couldn't they just let you skip the damn animations? >_< I played the game on an emulator, and for some abilities I'd get mean slowdowns.

Totally agreed, I just felt bad for sort of derailing the thread. :wacko:

Nice, thanks Kouen, I've just read it. Will comment more on it once it gets published but I'll advance something, an example on how to write an article against some of their policies without being irrational.

I wrote a review of the PSN title, Journey and e-mailed it to the e-mail address. MasJ emailed me back saying " Elmdor or someone else will make you an account at The
Gamers' Voice. Then you can post your article directly and the good thing is that you can format it to your liking". So Elmdor, help a guy out? :D

Also, those of you already writing for us: GREAT FREAKING WORK! We're super pleased. :> At the moment we're running a bit low on articles though. Would anyone be interested in doing, like, short, easy submissions related to our regular features (five minute reviews, the weekend grind etc), while you're thinking of other awesome stuff to do?
