Well I did all the necessary requirements to softmod for mcboot install for my scph 30001 ps2. I bought agent under fire. Burnt it to a new DVD. yada yada yada. When I try to put the game into the drive it goes it and pops up and makes this annoying screeching sound. It isn't locking into place and it's rather pissing me off. I've been trying to do this for about a week now and can't figure anything out. HELP!
Does it do that with other games too? If it does it could be you disc drive. If not then your disc.
do i have to put the cover back on? If I do then that was the problem.
nevermind. That was the problem. Will it still be possible to swap the discs with the cover on?

hey i appreciate it a lot. One problem though. I don't see any screw for the cover of the disc tray. I saw somewhere that you can just unclip it easily and slide the tool in there.Quote:

Well I got to the second stage and swapped the discs and did what i was supposed to and then it went to a black screen so idk.
I got it to work finally. One last question. If I go to ESR and for the status it says unknown media in drive does that mean I should use the other version of DVD for copied games? I burnt a couple games to DVD+R and bought a 25 pk of DVD-R today. Just trying to figure this out. Thanks a bunch.

To play burned PS2 games with MCBoot and ESR you have to patch the disc image with ESR patcher and then burn it to a DVD. MCBoot should automatically detect that a disc is ESR patched and then it should boot it automatically.Quote:

+1 on DVD-R. For console backups, it's the only way to go.
what i'm saying is I did that with 2 DVDs already and they don't load. I'm going to try using the other type of DVD and see if it works but right now my Norton Firewall keeps blocking and deleting my ESR patcher. Very frustrating.Quote:

dvd+r still work although dvd-r is better.
what program are you using to burn?
as far as the screeching popping sound, it means the disc your using dont agree with your drive. it happened to me with some cheap memorex i used before. burned onto some sony accucore and some verbatim's no popping no screeching.
has n e one suggested a network adapter and an ide hard drive, for all of your ps2 wants. outweighs the cost and effort of swapping the dvd drive everytime it dies
I'm using imgburn to burn the discs. Yea it screechs when I first put it in then it takes about 30 seconds to attempt to read it then just comes up as unknown media type in ESR. I just ordered a 5 pk of Verbatim DVD-R off Walmart so they will be shipped to the store within the next week. Hopefully they work, if not I give up lol.
get a usb device and learn to use openps2loader and ps2esdl instead. play games from a usb device
I tried that. Have a 4gb usb drive. Used USBUtil v2.0 to put .hack infection on it and it wouldn't load the game in OPS2L and then tried .hack gu vol 1 rebirth and that didn't work either.Quote:

Be sure to burn your discs at the slowest setting you have, preferably 1x. Slower burning means better quality and makes the games more likely to be playable.

thats fine that will still be the best burning speed for your hardware, mine is 2.5x even if I set imgburn to burn at 1x it jumps to 2.5x because of my hardwareQuote:

Verbatim is the way to go for media, if your ps2 can handle +R try Verbatim DVD+R's it's a bit of trial and error though to find out what is best for your PS2 some people can't use DVD+R at all, dual layer is even harder to get working personly I avoid those and go for dvd 5 rips when possible
Just retried the other DVD+R that I burned and oddly they don't work. Idk if it reads them sometimes or only read the one disc because it wanted to. We'll have to see when I get my Verbatim discs Friday.Quote:

Well the Verbatim DVD-R 10 pk that I ordered didn't work on my ps2. Pissing me off.
The PS2 was poorly put together, but thats just sony on the cheap n nasty there are hardly any PS2's that run the same either specially with the PS2 slim thats why it's trial and error with the PS2.
My advice would be avoid dual layer, stick to verbatim but seen as the -R's had an epic fail stick to +R's
Just to note verbatim have done more than one type of DVD-R you can check out this Verbatim DVD Media list it should be of a little help
Also some Verbatim (DataLifePlus) model DVD-R's are rubbish
Alright I'll try to invest in some Verbatim DVD+R discs then. So what you're saying is I shouldn't buy the datalifeplus discs?
Some of them are bad, just look at the link I gave Verbatim do all sorts of DVD there are datalifeplus that are fine aswell as datalifeplus that just wont work on console
