This girl is wrong in the mind-tank.

I have calculated, that a text conversation, ranging from about 6 - 8 messages (25 cents a message) spanning about 10 minutes, equates to one short phone call spanning about 2 minutes (Probably uses about a dollar).

It is much easier, and cheaper to call.

And frankly, I would much rather talk to somebody directly instead of wait a few minutes for each reply.

Darth is pissed at the kind of people who text, and the fact that she was using a keyboard cellphone, instead of a normal cell phone. And the fact that she texts constantly, and "trains" for this thing, instead of just calling. Or something of that nature.

Text messaging is inefficient.

Although it's still useful when you can't "talk". More privacy, less noise, etc.

But in most cases, a phone call is far superior.

And there are competitions for everything, it was just a matter of time before texting became a big competition. As with all competitions, some people take things way too seriously.

I get 300 free web text a month from my network and I never use them.:|

Text has it's uses. Mainly for use in school. That's the only time I use it. Except wehn tlking to Alexa, but that's because she runs up her minutes talking. (To me coincidentally) So we turn to texting since we're both on a free text thing.

Texting is also good for people you dont want to talk to.

I think around 13-14 should be the age you could have a phone.

I didn't really have a need for a phone until then anyway. And even then I used my mothers.

Then my younger sister got a new phone, so I got her old one.

Drunkenly destroyed that, now I have my (Even younger) brother's phone, that he does not even use because he's like eleven and all he ever does is text his 'girlfriend.'

So, I've never bought a phone, but my younger siblings have. :wacko:

You see Darth, normal kids make friends, other people who share the same or similar interests as they do. Most even find people they like on an intimate level (i.e. a boyfriend/girlfriend (whichever you're into)). Children often start this process at a young age, around the time they enter the school system. In today's society, it's common to want to talk to your friends, even when you are far away, so text messaging has become a common thing among young and old alike. It's like sending a letter via the postal carrier, but much quicker.

I've never bought a phone either. My mum gave me one when I was going to Holland, and I still use that one. Now, it does have a shitty camera, internet and some pointless shit like that, but I think it's pretty ridicolous to pay for one of those fancy phones, to get that stuff. Sure, I've used the internet a few times when I was bored or wanted to get some sport results while residing in the middle of nowhere, but come one, it's a phone. You use it to call people.

Oh, I was probably 14 or 15 when I got it, and I agree with Darth. I think. I do text message occasionly, but it's only because the girls I know tend to like it, and I like to score and stuff. :shrug: Well, I try anyways. :wacko:

If I could go back in time, I'd kill the guy who first thought "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if you could use your cell phone to e-mail someone?!"

Thats the prick who started my $25 a month text bill that I get from my friends texting me. I tell them to fucking stop, now I'm wondering if its possible to get that feature REMOVED from my package.

on most plans it is possible to have features disabled

my mom had the internet feature of my phone turned off, as well as multimedia messages ( sending pics. etc. )

and on my plan at least, it only costs money if you actually open the text and read it.... although i understand how hard it is not to

alternatively, there are texting packages that come as add-ons to your plan for about $5 more a month
