That was the flag of the south. The dukes are from the south. The flag is typically used as a source of pride for people from that region. It's also heavily used by rednecks and folks who can't let the past go (in certain cases, the kind of people who want to bring slavery back). And since General Lee was a general for the confederate states, it'd make sense that they'd use the flag (since they've already named their car after him).
