Japanese to English Translators LooK

If anyone here can do Japanese to English translation, please contact me now! I'm working on getting the AWESOME game Dragon Warrior Monsters 1 & 2 for PSX translated into English.

(Yes, this is both of the GB games, but on the PSX! Full Japanese, though, so I need a translator!)

I'd love to help but my knowledge on these things sucks. I could possibly help with the translation but I'm only starting Japanese classes on the 29th of September and will be done in December(just begginers courses). I'll let you know if this is a possibility.

Keep in mind that it's VERY hard to hack PSX games. Much much more difficult than SNES games or any other console(besides current and past gen of course).

Zorlon and Pavlick, I think are the only members who know hacking/coding.

As for Jap to English, Only one (I think) member is that fluent in Japanese, I think his name is taylor or something. pkt-zer0 knows a little bit too.

Neverbirth seems to have a very good knowledge of Japanese, too. He was able to translate the picture that Myst posted in the YSI Comments thread.

I know loads (well not that much really) about ROM/game hacking. I'm even working on my own level editor for a NES ROM. :]

Oh, I had no idea, Mabye I should get to know people more :S

But just one question, (to pwherman) why draon warrior monsters 1 + 2? I know its a small iso.... There are many cool JAP RPG's on the PSX.

Xena, I'd like to get this game translated first, because I don't see any real PSX game translations, and there's so many good games. This is a pretty small one, too. Also, this was one of my favorite game(s) on the Game Boy. :D

I don't know as much as I'd like... but I'm above the Nouryoku Shiken Level 3 Test... anyway, I'm afraid to say that I couldn't help, I don't have spare time... most of it is consumed by my job, and I'm starting the school year soon again... plus I already help another translation group...

Good luck with everything... if I'm able to help with anything small (menus, items descriptions, some dialogues) sometime you can count with me.

Well if you've ever played Dragon Warrior Monsters it's not too much of a texty game. There's just some text, and then all of the monster names, and such. There may be a use for you. :)

And if anyone knows anything about hacking into the PSX ISOs, that would be greatly appreciated, because I'm not too sure on that, which is pretty much needed. I know it's possible, though, because some guy did the game Finger Flashing, but his site is now defunct.

It's possible I've seen it done before. I forgot what programs the guy was using or else I'd help that much. Is there any real diffrence between Dragon warrior monsters on the GBC and the PSX?

About PSX hacking... you could try to contact rveach... he knows a lot about PSX... he made some tools (one of them can compress PSX images even more than any current compressor as far as I know... I don't use it tho ^^U). I don't have his site address at hand... but I'm sure you can find it...

I've played Dragon Quest Monsters, but just for a few minutes... so I don't know much about it... but I'm sure I could help with a few things if I have enough time.

There's not too many changes. Just some graphical things.

There's also two rare monsters you can't get in the GB version in #2.

Well, the Dragon Quest Monsters version I have is the PSX one ;).

Well I'd love to but my Japanese is kinda choppy...If I ended up the main translator it would be the RPG equivelant of Zero Wing. "What happen? Someone set us up the warp wing."....Don't think you'd want that too much. heh. I could probably do small things like some menus and stuff. But nothing to gigantic, give me another year of lessons and then we'll talk.

Ha, that wouldn't really matter to me. If you just kind of translate it, I'm sure I could perfect everything, and make it sound right. All I really need is the monster names, and move/skill names.

(You can also do the menu/main intro, etc.) ! :) haha

I'll get some screens up if I can so we can at least start the translating.

The hacking is another thing in itself. I hope someone can help a little more there...

Hacking I can't help you with in the least, but I could probably get the monster names. I have a friend who's as obsessed with this game as I am, so I'm sure between the 2 of us we could get most of the monster names done, and quite possibly the menus and the title screen.

Yeah, I'm probably about as obsessed with it as you two also.

Between us three, I'm pretty sure the monster names, title screen, and menus are done. (How about the monster moves and such?)

Now we need some people for the speeches just between the actual people, and some other things. And, the hacking... C'mon anyone? :)

pwherman, are you planning to "extract" the text through screenshots and/or playing the game? I haven't seen such thing for years :S.

About Persona 2... I wouldn't suggest trying to hack it unless you know a lot about PSX hacking... the script is already out there fully translated, and a few groups tried to hack it, but ended leaving up the project...

For the screenshots you posted... two quick translations, I don't have time for more right now:

Second screen:
- Continue (lit: Play from continuation)
- New Game (lit: Play from the start)
- Battle/Competition Coliseum
- Marriage Room (not fully sure about this... can you marry in the game?)
- Shape Telephone (I guess "shape" refers to monsters or something like that... maybe different clothes?)

Third screen:
� Talk � Special Skill
� Items � Investigate/Check up
� Status (lit: Strength/Power) � Tactics/Strategy

That was I did just to sort of get started. But, until me and/or Tetsuya figure anything out about the hacking part, it's gonna be like this just for some basic text. I'm not really sure how we're gonna go about this just yet.

Yeah, the only reason I said Persona 2 is because the text translation is already out there. I really don't think we should translate the whole thing only from screenshots...as that would take the better half of a decade. I used to have a program that let you dump all the text from the whole game onto notepad or wordpad. We need to get us one of those programs. I'll get looking.

Well, there are tons of programs like that, I consider atlas to be the better, anyway, you don't need any program like that to dump text from PSX games as most of them use UTF encoding and you can use any normal program to see it. It's rather strange to find PSX games with compressed text or custom encoding.

Yes, but we need a specific prog that could dump text from AND back to the PSX ISO, so that the changes will appear on the game translated. And, one that can handle the Japanese characters. Do you know of any, because I've been looking on MegaGames, Zophar, and couldn't really find much. Or maybe a hex editor would work, too? Any info to set us off here would be great, Neverbirth, because we'd like to do this on more games in the future if we can just find a way to make it happen. :drool:

About hex editors used for ROM hacking... the best is WindHex32 (by Bongo') without any doubt... you can find it on his site:

I think it wouldn't work for what you want it for tho... well... you can try different programs with support to different types of encoding... dunno... you could even try Internet Explorer... or you could try some program like atlas, and try to search for tables with the equivalence between the current ASCII value of each encoding set and their corresponding Japanese character... Sadly the best sites I knew for ROM hacking are dead right now... I've seen a couple of good PSX hacking docs around the net, but they are not in English...

About reinserting the files... why don't you use programs like CDmage? you can use the import function... you have to take into account the file limitations... I don't know up to which point that problem is solved on PSX games... the only people I know with advanced hacking skills don't know about it, at least the ones I've talked with... but they haven't hacked any PSX games to that degree heh.

Well have you done any ROM hacking before? Im you have would you be at all intrested in hacking the english characters into this one? PM me if you're intrested.

Sorry, but the only hacking I've done is with SNES and a couple of GB games, and it was pretty basic... I mainly did tables, located text, dumped scripts and similar things that require a low level of knowledge.

I've never done anything related with the PSX... I only know some things I've been told by some hackers friends of mine, but never tried it myself...

Well could you ask them if they'd like to help, or could they at least tell you some of the methods they used?..for PSX, that is.
