Console/PC

What do you guys think... console vs. pc?

Console - Relaxing on a couch
Pc - chair

Console - play games/dvds
pc - play games/dvd/graphic design/programming/networking (this doesn't count as much becuase in the world you need a pc so a low end pc can do all this except play games.)

Console - 300 for a ssytem .... a new system every 4-6 years
PC - high end pc a lot but doesn't last as long... (i don't think i'm not sure about htis if someone knwos tell me)


Pc - if u have patience you can emulate the systems an dplay htem from a high end pc....<--- illegal (??)....<---(what if u buy the game and just emulate it on comp....)

THoughts commments someone ehelp m idk what to do stick w/ comp or console


I'm also hoping to do somethign in graphic desing/networking or programming/networking when i grow older so... yea....lol

EDIT: you can customize pc every witch way... you can't customize a xbox as much...

it all depends... If you're mostly into gaming take a console. If you want extra stuff take a pc. I prefer a pc, cause it's got great customization, networking, Half Life 2 and tons of other stuff.

I'm not a big PC gamer. But it has so many other uses that make it excellent. Emulation is pretty handy though, not having to burn a bunch of cds for a console and such.

PC. Not only for greater function, but also because I prefer PC games over most console games. Only two series on consoles have really drawn my interest, Final Fantasy and Harvest Moon.

Well Yes and No, if you ripped the game yourself No, if you download the game from someone else yes. If your playing from the original Disk no.

I would buy an xbox and mod the crap out of it. If you say down the road you want to do graphic design, then why buy a PC that will be outdated by then?

Really, I would have to say it's between both. I have yet to play a PC game that I actually enjoyed playing, no matter how high end the PC was. Emulation is only so good, and I think it was said that you need a PC at least 5-10 times better than the console you are trying to emulate. So in order to really say which is better, is like trying to say what cheese is better.

As far as getting into Graphic Design, even a low end PC can hold up so long as you have a decent amount of RAM and HDD space. I run on a 450Mhz Pentium3 with 192MB RAM and 40GB of HDD. Anything at or above these specs is good enough for any graphics work that you can think of.

Either way, both would be peices of shit in less than a year no matter which you decided on getting.

if you want to do game, animation (FF:SW) then you would need to at least be able to see what ur making like if u have a crap computer then you won't be able to make it good... ya know?

The point is i can practice graphic design now lol and and exbox would be outdated by then also.... and an xbox would be out of date also.

Buy a cheap PC like recommended to practice graphic design, no need to waste money on a high end. You can find cheap dells no problem (note to self: You were tired when you recommended a dell). An xbox is really wonderful when modded :) I should be getting my second xbox (third technically) next week should everything play out lol

why have 3 xboxs... and (2) if i go to console (if the games are right obviously...as in if there what i want or any other system in fact xbox was an example if i used it above or anything) okay (2)_ if i go to console eventually i still g2 upgrade pc so that's two costs techincally... eh idk....llol

I think the reason i'm considering console is (1) it's cheaper (2) there's like 3 games i want... ffx,ffx-2,fable ... oh and (3) it can be more comfortable becuase your on a couch or osmething buyt other than that i think i wouldnt' care... so yea i think i'll stick w/ pc i guess...for now :)

Technically you could use a PC from a couch too =P.

I hate all the stuff with pc like system requirements. And console plays more comfortable with the nice gamepad and such.

While I really like consoles for a sit back and play without having to think too much, I much perfer PC's.
I like the better control you get in FPS games (its like playing as a caripple with a blindfold using a gamepad on FPS games), and I love the variety of things you can do with all the software thats available.

If you want to compare graphics, then most of the time the PC will win (unless its old). People tend to play PC games at a much higher resolution than you can a console (and depending on your graphics card, often much higher detail).

Really you will probably end up spending a fair bit more on a PC, but I guess you could make up for the money spent in the amount you warez from the internet :P

If I can find the damn thing, I actually plan on turning my PS2 into a PC. That's right, the $40 Linux bundle. So I guess I would have the best of both worlds? Especially since I'm a big Linux user now, I can get around in it and be perfectly fine.

Edit: I completely forgot that the Linux bundle is not sold or produced in NTSC anymore. That means that I will have to use a PS2 Net Adapter, USB keyboard and mouse, and (gasp) regular IDE HDD and play around like that. The biggest thing would be getting the official boot loader. You know, the one that is in the actual kit. What a set back.

A high-end PC all the fucking way. I don't necessarily play much anymore, and the only games I like to play frequently are online FPS like HL or Quake III. A high-end PC + broadband = endless hours of fun and utility.

There are a few console games that I'd like to try, but I'm not about to buy an XBOX/GCN. For older consoles, we have emulators. :P Pretty soon some dude will come up with a way to emulate the NDS, and DC and PS2 emulation are already under way. ;)

Buy a xbox for emulation. Its great for SNES, NES, Gen, GBA, and all older stuff, and it can run linux after its chipped. You could also spend 500 bucks on an upgraded xbox, 1.4 ghz with 128mb of ram heh.

my computer is better than 1.4 ghz w/ 128 mb ram :-P

and also as a side-note with a pc i can emulate everything... just g2 be patient but idk what i'm gonna do depends on the games for ps3/xbox 2/(w/e nintendo is making) b/c that's when i'd start going console if anywere.

lemmie counteract

1) u dont have to buy a new system and new accesories all the time just once in a while maybe a new graphics card or new ram and if u get em from custom pc builders or non chain stores u can get em alot cheaper than u think

2) well if your in to rpg then ya u need a console and dont bother buying fable cuz its kinda short just rent it but if u want fps, rts, or een mmorpg u have to go with pc like call of duty, medal of honor, c&c generals, warcraft, everquest

3) well i got a wireless keyboard mouse set so i can play in my bed if i want if u want a couch just use the tv out on your gfx

also u can get a gamepad for emulators if u wanna do that too

my wireless gamepad has more than enough buttons for any console and its the same shape

Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and EQ are all on consoles too (granted the PS2 EQ is bleh, but still heh)

Console, for me, when it comes to games. PC when it comes to communication. ;) That is all.

The console beats out the computer any day for games. I hate having to continually update my computer with the latest stuff, having to keep buying new videocard hardware to be able to play new stuff. A console will cost you $200 plus games, and that's it. That's all you really have to pay to be able to play it. Anything after that, like the Nintendo 64 expansion pak, is only about $30 more anyways. With a computer, you have to build the computer -- for a good one, we're looking around $700-1000. Then you have to update it every couple of years. Then you have to buy the games. Then you have to download patches. Then you have to update it again. Then you have to buy more games. Then you have to download patches. In the long run, in just a few years you could have easily spent about $3000 and not have anywhere near as many games as you would on the console.

I'm a console kid. Sure PC's are fun for emulation, but hey, that's just playing a console game! PC's are best for FPS and MMORPG, but I care very little for either. I've yet to see a PC platformer that can truly rival Mario, which I have a full on robot chubby for. Also, my SNES never, EVER gave me a blue screen of death, told me to download a patch, or that my graphics card needed updating.

Yes you do have better control while using a keyboard but a console controller with 2 analog sticks works almost just as good and its easier to change weapons and such.

both console and pc's are great for certain things. i use my pc mostly for gaming, graphic/web designing and multi-media use. and as for gaming on my pc i just play FPS games. the mac here is used mainly for graphic designing and some multi media. as for consoles like ps2, gc, etc, they're great. again, great for certain things. gaming of course. and since i'm a big fps player i'd much rather play something like MOHAA or halo on a pc then a console. any other type of game like 3d platformers or rpg's work better on consoles.

The sensitivity on your mouse is directly relative to how much you move it, with analogue sticks you have to get just the right angle and tilt and it still isnt as fast or accurate.

Switching weapons is a fairly null point as scrolling the mouse wheel its just as quick and easy as pressing gamepa buttons.

Although I will admit if you just want games (and possibly retro emulation) a console is probably a good choice, even though the games cost so fucking much.

But if you like eye candy, RTS/FPS/MMORPG plus office application, web communication, whatever graphic design or 3D modelling you are interested in, actual software or game development and a whole shitload of other things. I think the pc is the choice.

edit: forgot to mention most people won't do most of what a PC CAN do, so perhaps thats slightly overrated, but the point is the pure choice you get.

well of coarse a pc is gonna be more expensive since it does more and has more power

as for upgrade you dont really have to upgrade that often my fx5200 plays doom 3 and u can prolly get it for $50

as for patching shouldnt that be a plus since u can get those glitchs fixed unlike console games

plus u all forgot tyhat the pc is FREE ONLINE PLAY not extra accesories(ps2) or monthly fees (all consoles)

the way i see it is that since i payed $50 for the game i should be able to use all its uses

I don't play anything with the letters R, P and G together, but I do like playing Unreal Tournament, Halo etc online for free...

Only have PC, as most games I like comes to PC and it's useful for other things. PC: Games, Music, Graphics, Homework and stuff. Only reason I would have got a console was if I wanted a specific game that couldn't be emulated (like Paper Mario 2 and Super Smash Bros Melee for GC)...PC can also be upgraded later, so it last pretty long

Your points are valid but i guess i just feel more comfortable with a controller in my hand. I've tried both and i chose the console for games but thats just me.

Well not all PC games are free. What about all those RPG's that people pay for monthly. Consols don't have monthly fees for the most part. With xbox its $50 for 12 months. And for the ps2 you just need a new part.
