Hi, I hope I am not breaking the rules. (Certenly not doing something illigal)
But I'm looking for a MS-DOS vr 6.00(or something) I recently dug up Litiraly an old comuter. I don't know it's capabilities, But I need MS-DOS to find out. It's an antique, and I'm feeling nostalgic. Please help :D

I'm not sure where you could get that, and I'm not sure if it is considered warez or not.
It would be considered warez...it is an operating system afterall, regardless of how old it is. You could always try freedos or something like that..
If it is werez then I'll leave the subject as it is i-i... I don't want to cause any damage
I wouldn't really worry about it... and if you are going to, then you can delete the thread, by deleting your first post here (though.... I haven't done it since the update).
I'm pretty sure dos is included on a basic boot disk. Everything from Windows95 up can make boot disks as far as I know. Just pop in a floppy, format it and select make boot disk. Done, not warez.
I'm almost sure you can get it on microsoft.com.

Try to run the setup under windows. I think it's gonna extract file or soemthing. Brb. :)
Yeah, that's what it does. Run it under windows, it's aa pkzip packed file, it will auto extract itself in the same directory as the exe.
But, forget that, it's a update for ms-dos if you already have ms-dos.:/

I've ran the comp. Bios (and now you'll now HOW old it is) It ask for Booting order there's A,C. B:\ Is what I need. but I can only swap from A, C to C, A X_X
For those who forgot/Don't know
A) the old BIG 1.2 Mega Disc
B) the smaller Floppy we know today :D
c) Hard disc
Open up the computer. You can probably change the order of the floppies on the chain, and that should help you out.

The IDE cables, I'm thinking.
There should be a cable... better termed a ribbon. It connects the mainboard to the floppy drives. You may have one cable with 2 floppy connections (plus 1 mainboard connection) handling the two drives. If that's the case, swith them. If it's 2 cables with 1 connection each, switch them, either from the floppy or the mainboard, it doesn't matter. You're just reordering the drives.... both A and B shoud just be disk channels, shouldn't matter if they are the 5.25" or 3.5" variety... just get them reordered.
Edit: I can't recall the real names for the cables... maybe just floppy cables? And I mean physically within the computer.
I have MS-DOS 6.22 Disks here. If you want them, PM me sometime, and I'll get them too you somehow...
dos isnt warez since its not sold in stores to be profited off of
I found out another thing. I had Virus in my old 386. so I had to format it.
now i says DISC BOOT FAILEd, insert system disc and press enter.
What the HELL is this SYSTEM DISC?! and why my MS-DOS boot disc isn't working...
(I guess I need to change the A: & B: Boot Sequence (there are only A,C)
and I have found a site with Dos 7.1 BOOT and 7.1 Install. (now I only need is a windows 3.1:D )
Oh and Agent smith, I did as you told me( It was one cable) but now when I open the computer I get this maggese "Floppy disc type is Set incorrect or Drive Error"
You might need to change the configuration in the bios now, cause it doesn't detect things like that. And a system disk is just a boot disk. Oh, and if you still need a boot disk with DOS 6 check out http://www.bootdisk.com/
or maybe the discs have been demagnetised (you know if they came too close to a magnet and got erased because of that)
it might happen with a long timespan and a small magnetic field...
Alreaddy changed the Bios maybe a cable disconnected^^;;;
and I keep the disc at a safe distence rom tthe computer
err... Angel Smith when you ment "Ribbon" did you mean that long gray colord wire
Or a thin Multi-color wire?
You should probably mention that to Bill Gates... as far as I know he has all his products copyrighted every year to prevent any misunderstandings... MSDOS is warez except for the first few versions of it... but version 6 and so forth is definately warez.Quote:

Whoops, sorry teraguard, I wasn't keeping up with the thread. But Ragnar has been all over it.... that old stuff is so foreign to me nowadays.... it's probably a more or less simple solution, but it's hard to say from here.
So like Ragnar said, you probably have to do some BIOS configuring now.... set the drives to be their proper settings, in other words in the bios it should have some stuff about floppy A and floppy B, and you need to swap them such that they are appropriate, becuase you don't want it to think the 5.25" drive is the 3.5", and vice versa.
It's called freeware as it comes installed on computers in the first place and doesn't cost anything...I had a copy of DOS e-mailed to me from a Microsoft employee...I assume that would mean they don't care if you send out copies on the net.

Ilso I noticed, that both floppy disc's err... Green light "Bulb" ^^;;;
is working non-stop, My best guess is that the ribbon might be damaged,
or the Card to witch the Ribbon is going to is having problems
