Does anyone else miss the "old" Nintendo/Rareware times?
I was wondering if I'm the only one who thinks the best times as a Nintendo gamer were in the '90s.
I mean, even though the Wii isn't obviously a commercial failure,I've noticed that it rather focused more on the new controls scheme and the casual market than at making real "old school" games, having even what many people consider as "shovelwares".I'm nothing next to the bright minds that run Nintendo, but unfortunately it seems they've relied too much on the "triforce" mario/zelda/metroid franchises, instead of developing some new IPs as Sony has been doing through the PS3/PS2 lifespan. It doesn't mean it's always bad,Nintendo will always make quality titles and I respect them, but lately even their first/second parties titles don't have to much appeal as it had in SNES and N64 days, like Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country trilogy. To be honest,IMHO the best '90s Nintendo console titles weren't made by Nintendo itself, but by Rare, like Goldeneye 007,Perfect Dark,Donkey Country 64,Banjo series,Conker's Bad Fur Day and Battletoads(obviously Nintendo R&D made wonders like Ocarina of Time,Majora's Mask and Mario 64,but I just can't like them as much as I like Rare).I quit buying/playing new Nintendo games in this decade after the N64 dismissal(not that Nintendo will be worried about losing a single customer),which somehow concurred with Rareware acquisition by Micro$oft. So it's somehow a kind of a poll:as a traditional gamer,do you feel that current Nintendo first/second party games don't attract you as it did before Gamecube/Wii age, especially the latter? Please note that I never said that Nintendo sucks or that console x or y is better or worse than current Nintendo line of consoles.
