Vandal Hearts II
Hi, I just recently joined the forum today cause I've been having some problems with the VHII ISO's I dl'd. Now that might be kinda misleading cause I dl'd them fine its just when I try to run them the game freezes at the KONOMI screen. I've looked through threads for similar problems and the response had been to use the latest version of ePSXe. Well, I haven't been using this emulator but I have been using the psxfin emulator. I haven't had any problems with ROM's up till now.
I've tried using ePSXe before but I just end up getting frusterated with it. I've got all the plugins, dll's, and bio's for it, it just won't load any ROM's I try to play on it. Now maybe I'm trying to play it wrong. I converted the BIN files to ISO but I still get no response from either emulator. I've even tried converting the files in CDZ format.
I'm still kinda new with PSX emulation. And i'm not completly sure what/how to do with the 6 parts to the VHII files. I tried dling a full version off it of BitTorrent but there are no seeds.
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Neither ePSXe or pSXfin can play games inside zip files, rar files or some other archives.
You have to unzip/unrar them first.
And you shouldn't convert bin files to ISO as it's unnecessary (both emulators can play bin files) and the conversion process could mess up the game.
Instead, extract the bin file from the archive(s), then for ePSXe, go to File > Run ISO > and choose the bin file.
Of course, you have to set up and configure ePSXe first.
Read this guide to learn how to unrar split archives:
http://www.epforums.org/extract-spli...519/index.html
Also read this guide to learn how to properly configure ePSXe:
http://forums.emuparadise.org/showthread.php?t=26432
According to this compatibility list, pSXfin still doesn't play Vandal Hearts II yet:
http://psx.silvanthalas.com/psxcompatibility.html
Although they still haven't updated whether the newest version of pSXfin 1.10 now works with VH 2 or not.
edit--
according to this , Vandal Hearts II (US) still doesn't work in pSXfin 1.10 because of the copy-protection:
http://psxemulator.proboards54.com/i...2479758&page=1
So, you have to use ePSXe for now.

Thanks for the reply SegNin. I looked at the links you posted and I kow how to extract files with WinRAR but I didn't know I had to put em all in one folder then extract them so they combined into one thing.
Thanks again though. I guess I'll just have to mess around with the configurations on epsxe like you said till I get stuff working.

Anti mod PSX games can be patched with a PPF patch applied to the disc image. PPF patches: megagames.com/psx/
PPF-o-Matic: on Megagames/psx in the utils section.
-
ePSXe can apply ppf patches on the fly too; taken from the ePSXe help file:
Code:
"Starting with ePSXe v1.5.0, ePSXe comes with an option to apply PPF patches to your game on the fly, as already seen in Pete's great CD plugin. NGEmu made a collection of important PPF files for you to download, but searching the web you should find plenty more. Using them is a bit more difficult, but easy once you got the system, and understandable for everyone who follows the step-by-step instructions below :
1. Download (and possibly unzip) the PFF patch EXACTLY for the game you'd like to patch. That means that you won't be able to use a PPF patch for FF9 german with your italian version ! Also keep in mind that some games (like Gran Turismo) have two versions.
2. Copy the file into the /patches sub-directory in your ePSXe directory
3. Look on the CD you want to use ... you'll find a file whose name is like SLES*,SCES* or SLUS*. Copy that name and rename the PPF file from your /patches directory to exactly the same name (also in uppercase !).
4. You're done, the next time you run that game ePSXe will add the patch on the fly !
Please do not ask any of the team members to mail you a certain PPF file, these requests simply will be ignored. Asking on the forum might get us to upload one, but don't count on it. "

You don't need to patch Vandal Hearts II to play it in ePSXe though.
As for pSXfin, you could try patching the game with:
Vandal Hearts II: Heaven's Gate Protection Fix
...found here:
http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches_v.shtml
You'll need the PPF-O-Matic Version 3.0 [504 KB] - PC - PDX found here:
http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml
The only problem is that PPF patches will only work with .bin images.
Although you might be able to apply PPF patches to .img files if you rename them to .bin, since an .img file is basically a .bin file anyway, just with a different extension.

SegNin. I fucking love you.
Hmm... I tried what you said SegNin and it says the game is sucessfully patched but it still doesn't go past the Konami screen. Is there anyway that the version I have could be a PAL version?
-
Maybe the one you've downloaded doesn't work. Try getting another version of it. (:

I have some recommendations.
1.) Try mounting it to a virtual drive and running it from the virtual drive via ePSXe.
2.) You may have a plugin issue. Try different video plugins
3.) Try tweaking your video plugins to better suit your graphics card.
4.) Try ePSXe v1.5.2 as it runs some games better than ePSXe v1.6
5.) You may have used a wrong patch... or patched it when it didn't need to be patched.
6.) Find out if your copy is NTSC-U or PAL. You can do this by mountign the image then exploring it. if it says SCUS or SCUS then its NTSC-U if it says SCES or SLES its PAL if its SLPS or SJPS its japanese.

...or you could download my copy from here:
http://www.badongo.com/file/2060968
http://www.badongo.com/file/2062958
Password for rar files: SegNin's Share
My copy works with ePSXe 1.6.0 using any video plugin.
But it does not work in pSXfin.
