Sega Saturn Swap Trick (Physical Modification)

Alright, I just got done doing this simple modification for the first time. Anyone should be able to do this if they have access to tape, and a screwdriver.

First, flip over your Saturn console, and remove all screws. There are no hidden screws on this system (not on mine, shouldnt be on any). There should be around 5 screws total.

Once all screws are out, remove the top cover.

Now, notice where the eject sensor is located.

Next, tape the two together (test the system while holding the sensor if you are unsure how to tape)

Test your system with a game. If all is well, then your disk should spin up and play!

Put the system together, and play as you need!

lol alright. I dont care about the 56kers in all honesty, since they have a hard enough time downloading Saturn games :)

You can play burned Saturn games after you make this simple modification. ;)

oh ok i should try that then hope nothin goes wrong cuz i dont kno how i would get another saturn :(

i tried to play a burned copy of fighters megamix but it keeps going to the bios screen. I was holdin the sensor with my finger did i have to tape it inorder for it to play the game?

I also burned nights into dreams. the redump one that is on this site i tried the trick with that cd in and it said disc not suitable for system. borman did u have that before?

I've finally gotten my Saturn open. All you have to do is tape that one thing, and suddenly it'll be able to play burned games? Or is there more to it?

Not yet, but I will in a few minutes. I'm downloading a game to burn to a CD at the moment as well to test, but it'll be a few hours

Okay, I've taped it. Original games work just fine still, so that's a plus. I don't have a burned game to try yet (alsmot all of the Saturn games on this site have no seeders) but I hope to get one here soon to try

Let me get this straight, If you tape those prongs together, you can magically play burned games without swapping? Because im confused as to why the title of this tutorial is "Sega Saturn Swap Trick (Phsyical Modification). Does this mean that you can just straight out of the box after you tape those prongs play saturn backups or does it mean that you can swap the discs and have it work?

The way I would imagine it works from reading your tutorial, especially since you refer to those prongs as the "Eject Sensor" which would imply an object designed for sensing when the drive is ejected, is that when you tape those prongs together you can eject the drive without losing the boot sector data since it would not be detected by the Eject Sensor since it now has tape over top of it, and pop in your backup which would load from your original discs boot sector?

BTW Your saturn could use a good cleaning! Nice tutorial but could you be a little more specific on what this does? Thanks!

You still have to swap. This is just the physical modification that you need to do to your system in order to trick it into believing the drive is always closed. Which technically it is, once you tape that bit together. ;)
