Why we believe...

I find myself unable to accept a utopia under a divine being, or of our own creation. Man appears to be doomed. Inherently flawed, inherently human, I can't speak for other atheist, but my hope lies in our social/physical evolution. Perhaps a day where our genetically superior children.. will rise above us; hopefully without crushing us beneath a superior boot.

I could never find happiness in religion, any religion. Then I waited my teenage life for "them" to land and bring us salvation. But the F'ers never came! Then realized its going to be up to mankind to save itself. Thus, we are doomed.

We aren't talking about hair popping out of nowhere, we're talking about simple genetics here. Sorry sniper but your ignorance right here should already have people ignoring your post, as that is that evolution is, no ifs ands or buts. Evolution is not traits that pop out of nowhere.

How does it not? Those with the traits of the stronger gets passed down. You don't expect a person that has had brown eyes in his genes to miraculously have blue do you? The only way to have blue is if its in your genes in the first place, which means someone had the chance to reproduce.

I personally don't have an opinion either way here. I just hope that people don't start ignoring the points others make just because it suits them to do so.

Though, even if they do, I suppose I don't care. It's not as if it effects me. I just love stirring up trouble, I guess.... :P

Didn't read the other posts, sorry, I will only be on for a couple minutes and decided to answer quickly. I think people believe in religion (I don't) because it gives them hope.

How did those with blue eyes and brown eyes get there in the first place? That is the issue, not whether blue and brown get passed down.

you suggest i read up? I have. And guess what. Like any contraversy, this one has two sides, and maybe it's you who hasnt read up. Can you tell me that you have gone to a store and picked up a book written by a Christian author about the evolution/creation argument? If all you read is stuff that is on your side, you are being just as ignorant and unreasonable as me.

Evolution != Creation

If you want to argue about whatever is the beginning of life, read up on abiogenesis.

The bible says that creation is true. However, I am pretty sure that it says nothing directly concerning evolution. However, because of the chances of evolution and the absurdity of it, I am led to believe it is not true. Is it possible that animals evolve? I guess it is. It's just not very likely. The only thing I am sure of is that humans do not evolve, and we have been this way sicne the beginning. Please understand, I am not saying that to be ignorant, but rather, to present the other side of the view, which you appear to have not looked into very much.

I don't know what school you go to, but all schools teach evolution. What I dont get is why they arn't allowed to teach creation

All of that said, I would say that evolution is not correct, for reasons other than the Bible. And I don't really believe in creationism either.

Isn't almost all (if not all) of the Bible NOT meant to be taken literally as whether or not some of the events took place is irrelevant, rather that it is supposed to contain lessons?

Unfortunately, within the christian community itself, many are in disagreement on what is literal and what is crap-I-forgot-the-word-because-it's-12:20am (I want to say figurative or something that starts with a "M").

A good one is the very beginning on how the earth was created. In Hebrew, the words literally means that it was created in a 24 hour time period (according to a christian site), wheras other sites claim that it's just 24 hours to God to what would take 15 million years for us.

My question is, if he can do so many things with the click of a (supposed) divine finger, why would he need to do all of that in a 15 million year time period? Why not instant? But that's going off at a tangent about the inconsistencies with Genesis and literal translation of certain denominations.
