No more than happens to a lot of the NPCs, and he's still somewhat "there", just not in the forefront anymore. Sort of like Jacob, who I think fills the role of a serious business partner more than anything (although they do support each other rather heavily).

Oh yeah, that's right, Jacob. I think Jacob ends up being the most loyal person to Niko aside from Roman, plus he's awesome. Although once you finish all of the NPCs quests they're pretty much out of the picture aside from random appearances in other missions and their optional stuff, so I guess it's kind of moot reading too much into it anyways.
