Good thing for the BIOS flasher .
since I finished dark forces the other day I started playing retro city rampage story mode as I had been playing free roam mode. it's like a better version of classic gta some of the references are pretty funny.
Which case did you end up ordering?
this one

I would have liked to get the cooler master I was watching but it never was in my price range and has been out of stock now for a while.
you recommended some memory a while back I know one brand was the corsair vengeance I forgot which other ones. so what would some other good and cheap ones be?
Any kit with decent timings and speed ought to do, just be sure to get 16GB+ and make sure you're getting it before buying. If you can get a really fast kit for cheap it won't hurt though. I noticed that a lot of sellers will picture a bunch but are trying to squeeze money out of single sticks :|.

There's are a ton of brands, I mentioned Corsair because I think you're likely to have the easiest time of finding a kit from them for cheap. You can check the QVL list for more.

I did a little looking and it looks like G Skill and HyperX are quite well reviewed and not overly priced(at least on newegg)
could I go with 2 8gb sticks instead of 4 4gb sticks? right now that'd be the best deal.
Aye, no problem with that. Which kits?
This is the fastest (cheap) one I see on NE:

I had it sorted down to North America only.
Is this it:

The kit seems fine. I'd avoid it since it ships from China and the $5 saved isn't worth the hassle .
oh shit I didn't notice that. yeah won't do that then I'm not waiting 6+ months to get something at a slightly lower price. I seen some corsair vengeance modules on ebay the other day listed as new factory direct then I noticed they were being shipped from china the price was quite low but not worth it to me.
It has to be super cheap with no comparable alternatives or the only source for me to want to bother with it.
NE says the Patriot kit I linked is eligible for free shipping. The only downside to memory is there's no guarantee it will work unless it's on the QVL list (though it shouldn't be a problem).
the corsair modules I was looking at on ebay were like 4.99-6.99 per 4gb module I think they were only 1333mhz ones though yeah the cheapest ones were 5.98 but only for the red 133mhz 4gb modules the other colored ones and better speed ones were running close to $10 per 4gb module so not even close to worth it. I did look at the QVL list before I started looking at the Gskill and hyperx memory.
The board should be fine with most kits as long as they're the proper type, I've got a Mushkin kit in mine . It's only the exact kits on the list which were tested however. I doubt that there will be much if any competition on that eBay link I posted earlier.
104F outside, that's 40C for those outside of the U.S.
I'm kinda close-ish to the water up here, being in Vancouver, so it only hit like 31C by my house. It's 28C indoors at my work :|
Ain't no way work will get AC, we're lucky to have heat in the winter.
Top of 11c today so it was actually warmer than the last 2 days.
We've had heavy frost in the morning 4 days straight.
It's supposed to be over 100(f) again, later this week.
I feel for you guys. it's pleasantly cool here :)
my new case might be here tomorrow :D
Make sure you check the sticker (there should be one) for the timings and speed if you're ripping the memory out of your current computer.
yeah I'm pretty sure there is stickers on them my current desktop is basically stock the gfx card is the only thing that's been added since it was bought.
I was planning on getting some new memory later since I was expecting the case to get here later in the month so I've been caught off guard a bit.
How much memory do you have at the moment? I don't recall.
If the timings aren't total crap that ought to be livable without needing to purchase anything else.
I tried looking it up but can't seem to find the brand.
The timings should be on the sticks. If not that then you could check the BIOS/UEFI and see if it's listed somewhere.
it's here :D it's a little bigger than I expected and I didn't realize it didn't have a card reader so I'll have to get a cheap usb one.
I wish for some rain. This heatwave has been awful.
I feel for ya. we've gotten a decent amount of rain lately we could have used it earlier in the summer but I'm not going to complain.
as of this moment I'm close to done. the board cpu and fan are in the case I just have to screw the psu down then get stuff connected. do you know what that bridge card that came with the board is for?
done just need to power it on :D
Spoiler warning:
the last one is just a size comparison to my old desktop. I'm glad I couldn't afford a full tower this thing dwarfs my monitor it even makes my 32" tv look small.
Got all the legs through the MB mounting holes without too much trouble ?
yes, had a little issue with them coming loose when i had to take the board out because I forgot to put the back panel on then I made sure the fan legs were re-seated properly. the legs could have been better designed.
I got everything hooked up I powered it on but I wasn't getting any video I tried my gfx card and the boards dvi connector i didn't try the vga though, I've been taking a bit of a break from it to do some other things.
