Pick up quest item, hear monster roar, run like hell? Yeah, it gets predictable, but I still found it quite scary. Although it is definitely not scariest thing ever - if I ever described it like that, it was mostly due to the sheer enthusiasm caused by finding a horror game that can actually be really spooky and atmospheric. Especially nowadays, when the horror genre is pretty much just about gore and isn't really that scary at all (looking at you, Dead Space).
Agreed on the storytelling. Finally realizing why the protagonist is amnesiac and why he's being tormented by guilt was pretty cool.
Huh, I haven't read that story, actually, even though I'm pretty sure I've read about 90% of the stories in my Complete Works volume. I guess it was part of that 10%. :wacko:
If you're ever in the mood for something similar, there's also Penumbra: Overture and Penumbra: Black Plague, the previous games of Frictional. But I'm pretty sure you already knew that.
