Back to the Future Part 2
Now I get to wait for part three :D.
I just played through the 6 player X-Men Arcade game for the first time.
Just dragged by friends to play back to psx and I was playing (again) Ace Combat 3..lol
Beat Death Smiles twice, can't remember how many continues I got through.
Great game, I'd have bought it if it were on PS3, as I refuse to give Microsoft a penny! :)
GTA: San Andreas for the second time, just as fun to play although it looks a little aged now.
Muramasa.
Shit was tight, one of the best action games I've played.
Just finished Ninja Gaiden on Sega Master
Completed Amnesia: The Dark Descent a few moments ago. ^^;;;
Thoughts on the game? I'm simply curious.
I enjoyed it. ^^;;; I don't think I've ever finished a horror game before, so it was a nice change of pace for me. I suppose there's a few installments of Resident Evil that I've completed, but the first one is more of a joke these days than anything, whilst the fourth and fifth are basically just action shooters with monsters instead of soldiers.
Amnesia had a wonderful atmosphere, and its developers did a lovely job of maintaining it to the very end. It wasn't very long before I stopped feeling generally creeped out and instead found myself predicting and becoming more annoyed than anything when monsters showed up, but I never completely lost the feeling of tension and danger, especially if I was playing with headphones. It's not as nightmarishly terrifying as some people on the internet would have you believe, but it's done quite well.
I particularly enjoyed the use of the diary entries and short flashbacks as methods of slowly revealing the story. And I was also fond of the way the character would gasp if something frightening occurred, with the sanity meter as an interesting feature. Healing items were rather scarce, which made it feel a little more like you were "surviving," but then again it was generally a rare occurrence to find yourself significantly wounded (outside of monster encounters, which you generally don't survive if you find yourself suffering from physical attacks). In contrast, tinderboxes were scattered about everywhere. By the end of the game, I was lighting almost everything I passed by, simply because I had so many, and I still finished with around 30 left over.
It was also refreshing to see a story with supernatural elements that wasn't completely ridiculous and unbelievable, with an ending that didn't feel like it was simply trying to explain away various loose ends with "oh, it doesn't need to make sense, it's supernatural." I've read that it was inspired by a Lovecraft story that I've yet to read (The Outsider, I believe), so I'll probably read that next time I have a quiet moment at home, just out of curiosity.
Pick up quest item, hear monster roar, run like hell? Yeah, it gets predictable, but I still found it quite scary. Although it is definitely not scariest thing ever - if I ever described it like that, it was mostly due to the sheer enthusiasm caused by finding a horror game that can actually be really spooky and atmospheric. Especially nowadays, when the horror genre is pretty much just about gore and isn't really that scary at all (looking at you, Dead Space).
Agreed on the storytelling. Finally realizing why the protagonist is amnesiac and why he's being tormented by guilt was pretty cool.
Huh, I haven't read that story, actually, even though I'm pretty sure I've read about 90% of the stories in my Complete Works volume. I guess it was part of that 10%.
If you're ever in the mood for something similar, there's also Penumbra: Overture and Penumbra: Black Plague, the previous games of Frictional. But I'm pretty sure you already knew that.
Beat Fallout 3, quite a fun game.
Spoiler warning:
