well, maybe not BETTER, but FtR isn't as good. I know, that makes no sense. welcome to my world.

i would kill to get to see AA and CoB. i wonder if they're comin around here? i could take a trip to cleveland, columbus even.

Bloodbath are cool, a little too simplistic compared to modern DM, but they still kick ass. I wish people would associate "Swedish death metal" with bands like Bloodbath, Entombed, Amon Amarth and Dismember rather than Soilwork and Dark Tranquillity(which I like, but I don't think deserve as much reputation as a DM band).

Edit: Hmm... I'm rather ashamed that I never got into Opeth. I don't know, most of the songs I've listened to I didn't like, but some others were very nice. Maybe I'll give them some more listens once my iPod arrives. :P I just find a 13-minute song from a band I don't really like a little too time consuming. :wacko:

heh, I know the songs are well long, but I enjoyed them a lot, then again after looking more into it, I realise one of their albums are pure clean vocals (namely Damnation)

i never got into Opeth, mainly b/c of a little (hehe, or not so little) song called Blackwater Park.

Well you're not missing out on much by not listening to Opeth. I used to love the band and them and Cannibal Corpse were the first real extreme metal bands I started listening too a couple of years ago. I had most of their albums downloaded and they were on my top 5 band list. Then times have changed and I realized I still didn't have My Arms Your Hearse. I got that and was just bored out of my mind. Demon Of The Fall was a kick ass song, but that was the only good one. I started listening to all their albums and finding out everything after Morningrise had like 2 or 3 good tracks on it. What people call Opeth amazing for, I call them boring. They mostly play the same riff for about 2 minutes, then go acoustic for another 4 minutes, then go death metal same riff for another 8.

I really loved these guys. When I first heard Bleak, I nearly shat my pants. I got the Still Life shirt and I bought the DVD. But now when I listen to them I just get bored unless its their first 2 albums. Orchid and Morningrise were less repetitive and had an awesome dark atmosphere to them. I still pop in Still Life every now and then but hardly ever...

lol, I can understand where you are coming from, Opeth tends to drag out a lot of the songs, but I like it :D.

I finally have some Opeth now actually. The discography :wacko: Can anyone recommened where to start, or what's best?

umm, well I think a lot of people think Still life is the best album, try "the moor", but be warned, Opeth drags out their songs quite a bit.

LOL! Hey I did say I used to love 'em. It's just now when I listen to their music, the acoustic soft parts just come out of nowhere and just totally bore me. Even the heavy parts are just a riff being repeated over and over again for a good 2 minutes. And (not that I really care) they don't solo as cool as they used to on their first 2 albums. On their first 2 albums the soft parts seemed to mix in wonderfully. Now they're just thrown in because they can do them and drag them out quite a bit.

Morningrise is my favorite. It only has 5 songs but all those songs are kickass. Advent has the most awesome middle acoustic break and outro. The Night And The Silent Water is great just as well. I don't understand why the band dislikes this song. Nectar is fantastic. Black Rose Immortal is boring on many parts because it's a 20 minute long song with no stable foundation in it whatsoever. The outro is nice though. And the album ends with the beautiful To Bid You Farewell. Starts out nice and soft and slowly progresses into a heavy track. Well done.

The remastered version contains a demo track called Eternal Soul Torture. A good track if you can get past the bad sound quality. It also has some parts of Advent in it...
