Recently finished up my Japanese replay of Skies of Arcadia. ^_^ In the last eight years, I somehow managed to forget how great a game it is. The music is fab, the setting is extremely well realised, the story is JRPG cliche done right, and it's got the same heady sense of adventure that made games like Grandia and Lunar such fun as well. With a quicker battle system and / or a less evil encounter rate, it might just be one of my favourites ever. ^^;;; Has aged really, really well, too. Played it through VGA, and everyone who saw me play through parts of it found it hard to believe that it was a twelve year old Dreamcast game.
Oh, and Enrique is dreamy. <3 And Ramirez and Galcian are great villains. As well as a fangirl's wet dream, since Ramirez x Galcian is practically canon.
EDIT: Also, after playing the Japanese version, I can't say I'm impressed with some of the name changes in the English version. It's one thing to change a name that's just something made up if you don't feel it works well in English, but a bunch of the Japanese names in the game are intentional nods to places, people or books. And we're not talking references that a Western audience won't get here. We're talking The Sargasso Sea, Montezuma, Moby Dick, El Dorado... Stuff that's probably more familiar to a Western person than to a Japanese one. Changing such names to generic fantasy ones kind of dilutes the game's personality and cheapens the world that the developers worked hard to create. It'd be the equivalent of changing all the names that Shin Megami Tensei borrows from religion and mythology to made up ones. :/ By what I remember it's a very competent localisation otherwise, but they seriously dropped the ball there as far as I'm concerned.
It was pretty easy even when they weren't. I basically sped through the game, and still got the trophy for five starring the last boss. The second last boss, on the other hand, gave me a headache. Not because he was terribly difficult, but because he killed me twice on the point of victory with his stupid instant death attack. :'D Instant death attacks + games where your main character's death is an instant game over = sad Elly. D:
Mass Effect, firstly I pirated the game for the PC and then after a number of problems I just said screw it and bought it on steam, one problem was that the galaxy map does not load up and you have to enable the console and manually enter each planet and system you wish to travel to and a few other problems, although even then the retail version had some bugs which were fixed by modifying the bioengine.ini file.
Anyway, to the game, I normally don't play many games which are RPGs or have RPG elements in them, however I sunk about 25 hours into mass effect, reached level 40 and did a lot of the side quests, I really liked the game. The side quests were a little repetetive though and they had little variation so I got a little sick of them towards the end. I ended the game with slightly more paragon than renegade even though I thought I would have got the opposite, I'm not sure if I will carry my save file over however because Ashley killed Wrex without Shepherds command and I want Wrex to carry on to the next game, from what I hear it's a bad alternative if I don't carry Wrex over. Also I knew the rough plot of the first game since I've seen what happens in ME3, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the game. Characters which although were a little cheesy but were still great were Kirrahe, Anderson and of course Shepherd.
Wai Wai World 2
Twinbee and Frogger stages took more time!
Because of that guy a couple of weeks ago who said he didn't believe that Yoshi was on top of the castle in Mario64, I decided to go through it.
Got my 120 stars and talked to Yoshi and got my 100 lives (I was already at 74 so big whoop)
Yeah.
Just finished up Aria of Sorrow. A well deserved play. Way better than Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance.
Beat Mass Effect 3. (Playthrough 1.) LOVED that game. And didn't mind the ending really. I don't see what the big deal was.
Also beat B-Daman for Game Boy Advance.
FEAR 3 on the 360.
Decent game, but still too short.
Ikaruga with co-op. I died too many times to count but hey it's the end that counts. I can rest easy now.
Next challenge? Maybe Contra, never did beat it.
I beat contra on the NES lately, rock hard game that one. I'm currently playing ninja gaiden on the NES, made it to the last level. Everyone knows the story; you die and wind up at the beginning of the last level, with no upgrades to fight the boss, and then get slaughtered.
Spectral Force 3 I dont care what anyone says i love that game
007: Blood Stone.
Was alright. Then again I'm a sucker for third person shooters, but if you're into playing something like Splinter Cell Conviction, it does a decent job.
Homeworld 2.
Recently beat Castlevania II Simon's Quest. Enjoy this game so much.. my opinion it's the second best made so far. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is first in my opinion.
Just finished Dragon Age: Origins.
Now I'm trying to decide if I should just go back and utilize all of these extra saves I made, or just play through the game again and rush through the main story line as an alternate character, then mop up all the simple ones that I'll end up missing.
Journey. Great Playstation Network game.
I think it took about 35 hours. I did a good handful of sidequests, but by no means got all of them. I'd say I finished maybe 30% of the side quests in the game.
I can't remember what my total play time was, but it was definitely less than 40 hours. As for the number of days it's taken me... well, I started it about five days ago.
I don't know if you've noticed, but I kind of blaze through games really fast. ;) If I dragged this one out over the course of a couple of weeks, like I have with some games, I don't think I would have sat down to play it again. I generally enjoyed it, but the combat system is one that I genuinely dislike. Not enough to set aside the game, but enough to keep me from coming back to it after I finish the rest of the :platinum:
Tales of Innocence. Good stuff!^^
UBW route of Fate/Stay Night. Let's just say it was a million times better than the Fate route, to me at least. Rin >>> Saber and all that jazz.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I enjoyed it but I think the second game was probably better, the multiplayer is a very nice addition to the game and is pretty fun. I laughed at the section were Macchiaveli said "I will write a book about you Ezio". Also I spent far too long getting the best Romulan armour and training six assassin guild members up to the rank of assassin and accidentally gaining the Sword of Altair, (because I had no idea you could get by maxing out assassin's guild challenges) only for the ending sections of the game to be incredibly easy, particularly since you have the apple of eden and Cesare being such an easy boss. Although it is nice being able to call in six assassins at a Borgia tower and kill all of the soliders there while you go straight for the captain.
No, you're pretty much correct. I don't think anyone considers Fate the superior route. Except the Japanese, but they're silly like that.
Usually people choose either UBW or HF as the best.
Depending on whether they prefer badass time travel shenanigans or Shirou getting chewed the fuck up.
Yeah, I vaguely recall you mentioning that a long time ago. Silly Japanese people are silly. I was not going to play HF, but I think I might give it a shot. I heard good things.
Also, this will be the first route in which I don't really know what to expect. You see, I accidentally spoiled the whole Archer=Shirou deal for myself before even starting UBW. Curse me and my tendency to look at forum threads that I shouldn't be looking at.
I think the japanese just have a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that Fate appears to exist just so the other routes can point out that it's terrible and why the ideology on display is inherently flawed. Maybe they missed all that incredibly unsubtle "heroes are horrible people" subplot stuff. Except for that one time when the hero wasn't selfish and ended up regretting ever being born and was trying to wipe herself from the face of existence. Come on Japan, they might as well bold the theme for you.
I personally consider HF to be the best. But hey, I like dark plots and generally share the writer's disdain for the whole "I'M GOOD BECAUSE BEING GOOD IS GOOD AND GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE" method of protagonist development. I also like to think they refer to the ending of that route as the "climax" solely because the levels of manliness on display inevitably lead to soiled undergarments. Or, well, any time Kotomine is onscreen, really. Why couldn't that guy have been the antagonist of the Fate route? I'd have paid to see that.
Time Crisis 4
Finally! Just need to 1CC both Evan and Giorgio and all up to 2-Players

Recently beat Illusion of Gaia again. I also beat Final Fantasy again.
Beat Devil May Cry, 1, 2, and 3. Might as well track down the 4th and finish that one off too.
X-Men Destiny :platinum:
You can read my review here :o
Final Fantasy VIII (first time)
It's taken me more than 2 months and over 90 hrs to complete.. I mean beat this game.. I acquired all GF and boost my characters (1/3 of playtime) so the last dungeon was piece of cake! But I failed when I tried to beat Omega weapon missed some side quests.. But I'm satisfied and the mindfuck ending was great!
Omega is additionally defeated.. It wasn't hard after all :)
Fire emblem, Fire emblem the sacred stones (emulating on VBA) Pokemon yellow and gold. I love those turn by turn games like fire emblem, i started final fantasy tactics advance but there was an error in trying to save it
Namco x capcom, take +-80 hours to finish off this great game
