The Japanese started that war with us and we just finished it on OUR terms. Back then, the Japanese thought their emperor was GOD and were more than willing to die for him. The US was worried about the invasion of Japan being long and bloody due to these fanatics. They estimated that an invasion of Japan would result in millions of American AND Japanese deaths.Quote:

Correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm sure I must be, but wasn't it the US who dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on 6th August 1945 and on Nagasaki 8th August 1945 ?
Ofcourse, that doesn't count as antagonizing, since in your words it probably was a "rightous" course of action "benefitting" the people of Japan, and in "agreement" with them.
Sure, you think that the Vietnam war when a host country rejected your "goodwill" ? Interesting...
Which would you choose?
1. Americans launch an invasion of Japan without using nuclear weapons. The war lasts longer. Millions of American troops and Japanese people die in the bitter fighting and resulting humanitarian crises.
2. Americans use nuclear weapons and force Japan to surrender. The war ends sooner. No American troops die and only a half million Japanese people die in the attacks.
Finally, you must remember that the Japanese weren't impressed with the Hiroshima bombing and didn't surrender immediately. Therefore, Nagasaki had to be bombed just so that the Japanese government would finally get the message and end the war.
Yeah, it doesn't count as "antagonizing" because the Japanese were busy doing that themselves while invading China, Korea, and were on their way toward INDIA(your homeland?) before attacking us at Pearl Harbor. Technically, it did "benefit" the people of Japan by ending the war, their imperialism, and their fanatical devotion to the emperor. As a result, the US "righteously" rebuilt their country and helped them become the prosperous democracy they are today. The Japanese don't "agree" with us using nukes on them, but we don't "agree" with their revisionist history that blames us for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "War is hell"...............Therefore, don't start one with us...............
The Vietnam War was a noble cause to prevent the South from becoming Communist. Sure, the South Vietnamese government was corrupt at the time, but the natives would have been better off taking their chances with that government instead of a communist regime. Don't believe me?.............Look at these comparisons.............
Korean War: The US intervenes against a Communist invasion in South Korea. The South Korean government is corrupt and oppressive at the time. The US successfully repels the Chinese and Northern forces. Today, South Korea is a prosperous democracy while North Korea is a bankrupt Communist dictatorship.
Vietnam War: The US intervenes against a Communist invasion in South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese government is corrupt and oppressive. The US is forced to withdraw from Vietnam in defeat. Today, South Vietnam does not exist and Vietnam is a poor backward country with a Communist regime.
