You know, I once held Nier in my hands as part of a stack of video games I was going to buy.

However, I still don't own it. ;_;

When it came out, I made an active decision to never buy it, but I'm not really sure why... :thot:

So far, this is the game this gen that I most regret not buying at full price.

It came out during a flood of RPGs. Several of them JRPGs. So I held off, intending to pick it up later.

I see it a while later for 30 dollars. I had an itch for an RPG and DAII wasn't seeming like such a good choice at the time due to the likelihood of an eventual GOTY.

I now feel terrible that the game didn't fly off the shelves and I may have contributed to that ever so slightly. I'll rectify this immediately if they ever make a Nier II. Or ever localize the grimoire. But that's what fan translations are for!

Most people avoided it due to the fact that we only got the Gestalt version. In retrospect, Gestalt actually kind of makes more sense in context. Well, aside from the possible canon-ness of that one short story that wouldn't make sense with an adult Nier.

Personally, I kind of liked seeing a protagonist who is a middle aged father instead of another prettyboy with a sword. As psychotic, stabby and generally FUCKED UP as he may be.
