Ridiculous. o.O And cartoons are meant to be a better alternative to gaming? I learned far more from playing RPGs as a kid than I ever did from watching crappy cartoons on TV. A story-centric RPG is really only a few steps away from a novel. Not a particularly exceptional novel, mind, but even reading a fairly poor novel will do a world more good for you than watching a show like Scooby Doo, where the same plot devices are used excessively, and where there is no semblance of character development or change.
To be fair, I read a lot more than I gamed as a kid. But I'd defend gaming as just as potentially educational as TV, provided you explore the right sort of material. ^_^ That woman seems to be basing her stereotypes of gaming on something incredibly old and outdated like Space Invaders. It's obvious that that's not going to teach you much. <_<; That's like saying all books are bad because 'The Cat in the Hat' doesn't teach you important lessons on life.
Heck if nothing else, playing games in another language has propelled me to the top of a Japanese class where the next youngest person is nine years my elder. ^_^ I guess that few kids play games in Japanese, but several of my foreign friends online have improved their English by much the same means.
Blah. <_< Just blah.
